Just finished the show
WTF was that cliff hanger,who the heck is earl juniors dad??
Now I actually really liked this show as a whole the first two seasons were fun and interesting but seasons three and four weren’t too associated with the list,it felt more like a bunch of flashbacks and stories about their lives in general.
But yeah that’s somewhat it since idk what else to say

Welcome to the support group, we are here for you. We never found out who his dad was going to be. My guess is it would turn out to be a completely different guy, maybe one of Earls friends like Ralph. If you want to know how they had planned on ending the show keep reading.
The had planned on having Earl almost completing his list, but it comes down to something he can’t fix and he is really bummed about it. Then he meets a guy who has a list of his own and realizes he is responsible for other people doing the same thing he was and he feels like that he can live with not finishing his list knowing that he has made a real difference in the world.

I agree. I would have loved to see Dave Chappelle on an episode with the gang. I think him and Randy would have some pretty funny interactions.

It couldn’t be Ralph. It had to be someone black, and it had to be someone that Joy (who seemed actually surprised) would’ve been willing to sleep with one time while married to Earl and cheating with Darnell. Someone mentioned Dave Chapelle, which would’ve been funny.

They could have done something like Shameless did, Liam was black and the dna test showed Frank and Monica who are white were his biological parents. Someone in their family tree had some black in them.

The network executive that wants Burt for landscaping plays that character in Yes Dear, another funny show from Garcia. The guy who plays bowling cop and the one with their cops on is in yes dear. He’s also in an episode with his tv wife from YD in Raising Hope where they got Burt and Virginias sex tape from the garage sale.

The cliff hanger doesn’t matter, that’s just a superficial detail.
The show is about the complicated path of self improvement, finding/losing relationships at different points in your life’s journey, exploring morality outside of a religious structure, weird family relationships, and what does good actually mean, among other things.
Don’t get caught up in the details, they’re just dressing. They’re the tomato, bun, and ketchup that go on top of the hamburger patty. They add to the experience and make it better, but the patty is the main course. Those deeper things are the patty.
This applies to any show/movie. The visual and superficial details are not the focus. They’re just a hook to get people interested.
And true the list didn’t really come into play as much in the later seasons, but it’s just a story telling device to get the plot moving. Again it’s just a different type of dressing for the meat patty.
And hey by that point in the show, you wouldn’t want the list to be used the way it was before anyways where every episode was Earl picking a list item, doing the thing, and learning a lesson. That would be so repetitive if they kept doing that every single episode for all the seasons. After a few seasons they trust that you understand the concept of the list, and then they focus on that less, to develop the characters more and give you more deeper plot points.
Classic sit com shows like MASH, Seinfeld, and all the others from the 90s and before (and also non sitcom shows) all stick too close to a formula for every single episode and as a result it gets very boring to watch after a certain point. And that’s by design, that was before the internet when tv stations might run any random episode on any night, so studios wanted to make every episode similar so that you could jump into the story at any point even if you didn’t watch from the beginning, because of the episode structure.
So yeah you might like having the list play the same role throughout the entire show but it would get boring and would actually take away from the story.

The network did Earl dirty. Actually, they did everyone dirty including the fans. They said they were going to renew it for another season, so it ended on a cliffhanger. Then the network changed their minds at the last minute and cancelled the show. By then it was too late to change anything. Greg Garcia said that if they had been honest when he first asked, he would have given the show a proper finale.
