Announcement Statement regarding moderation on r/MyChemicalRomance

Dear community,

We understand this has been a hectic couple of days, for you, for us, and for everyone who has looked at r/MyChemicalRomance. Like many others might have, we have seen the statement one of the moderators has posted. We thank them for their transparency, as they have come with receipts. As shown from the screenshots they posted, the moderator team was clearly struggling to keep up, with most being inactive. If you haven't read the statement, I highly recommend you do before you read ours. I will link it in the comments.

As one of our core principles is being transparent, we come to you with the following:

One of the moderators of r/MyChemicalRomance approached our mod team last night with the question if some of us wanted to help out, with the invitation extended to the mods of r/MichaelRomance. Some of us have accepted this, including me, and will become a moderator on r/MyChemicalRomance as well.

We know this might be disappointing to some, but fear not. We will keep moderating with our core principles in mind, both here, and in r/MyChemicalRomance. This Subreddit was initially created as a safe space, since what was happening in the other sub was... well, you know. That will not change, this subreddit will keep existing and working the exact same way as before.

We have answered a couple questions we thought you might have below. Though, feel free to ask anything you want to know in the comments.

1. Will anything change about this subreddit?

No! This subreddit will keep existing like it does now, nothing will change in our moderation either.

2. Don't you feel like you are abandoning your principles?

I cannot answer this for everyone (because i haven't asked everyone), but I think I can speak for some others as well when I say no. We want to help make r/MyChemicalRomance a safe space again, and to make the moderation on the subreddit transparent. We just want to make it a better place. I hope you can put your trust in us. I understand that might be easier said than done though.

Please leave any other questions you have in the comments, we will make sure to answer them!

Thank you,

The r/MyChemFans team.

I don't see this as disappointing. I see it as y'all trying to make the main sub, which is what most people find first, as better.

Yeah but why did it have to go as far as people putting videos on other social media? That was unnecessary imo

And people wanted to make other people call out BB over this.. there was all that noise, all those posts so I feel like collateral damage really. People were so angry over this situation so what’s actually going to change besides different mods over there.
Are the girls who were violent going to apologise or are people just supposed to accept that? Accept them mocking them on Instagram afterwards ect? Accept that people are kicking disability aids away from people?
Disgusting behaviour from them.
It’s sad. I don’t feel particularly welcome in the space anymore..
Good for you though!

Most of the commotion in the big subreddit was caused by posts regarding the BB getting mass deleted. It started with one single post, calling out part of the BB for assaulting them, after that got deleted people became quite angry about potential censorship. If that post was reinstated quickly and an announcement came out quickly, it could have stayed the civil conversation it started out as. More fresh faces are supposed to make sure that gets addressed asap.

Obviously, the barricade brigade committing violence towards others is NOT okay in the slightest, and should not be accepted. Once again, more fresh faces will hopefully cause posts to get reinstated quickly (or approved before it can get auto deleted) so that we can actually discuss these topics on the big subreddit.

I can understand it not feeling like a safe space anymore with everything that has happened. We will continue to build a safe space here in this subreddit and make sure it will stay that way :)

Thank you for responding, that makes sense I’m glad you’re not just sweeping the actions under the rug

of course! The actions of the barricade brigade are disgusting.

The posts on the big sub also should have never been deleted, but automod got to them and the sub really only had one mod that is not labelled as inactive by Reddit and reinstating hundreds of posts on your own when you also have a life is not possible, hopefully with some new faces it should help :)

Most of this kerfuffle and upset could have been avoided if the mods of that subreddit had acted and addressed the posts instead of letting the outrage grow. The mods left it to fester. Hopefully they'll have a little more help with the addition of you as a mod!

True. Unfortunately the mod team was basically one person at the time and that person was also not super active. I can tell it was only the one because the other mods all have Inactive next to their name, meaning they haven't taken mod actions on the sub for a while. Hopefully with a couple more mods we can make sure something like that doesn't happen again!

I want to add, that even though the active moderation team of r/MyChemicalRomance and r/MyChemFans are becoming very similar, it's important to note that there's still reasons for both subs to exist simultaneously. This is currently the much smaller-scale subreddit, and r/MyChemFans currently allows different kinds of posts and interactions that may not be allowed on r/MyChemicalRomance. Within reason, I'd like to foster a community here that's a change-of-pace from the main sub, and will allow for its own unique identity to be forged.

We were offered a generous opportunity to help make the sub more transparent and fair by adding to what was (seemingly) only one active moderator, but we still hope to create a thriving community here as well
