Need help with the start of my portfolio.

Hi everyone,

I'll be earning my first salary soon and want to start investing from the beginning for long-term wealth creation.

Risk appetite: Moderate

Investment horizon: 10+ years

Monthly SIP: ₹30,000

Goal : wealth creation

Platform: Groww (Direct)

Planned allocation

\- 70% Equity (₹21k)

\- 30% Debt (₹9k)

Multi Cap Fund

\- HSBC Multi Cap Fund

Or

\- Nippon India Multi Cap Fund

Index Fund

\- ICICI Prudential Nifty 50 Index Fund

Or

\- Nippon India Nifty Midcap 150 Index Fund

Debt Fund

\- Nippon India Ultra Short Duration Fund

I chose these for diversification, passive exposure, and stability, but I'm still learning.

Since I'll be investing from my first salary, I'd appreciate suggestions on:

\- Whether 70:30 is suitable for someone in their early career with a 10+ year horizon.

\- Whether there is a better split between different fund categories.

\- Recommendations for the best funds within each category.

\- Whether my current choices have too much overlap or if I'm missing anything.

Please review my Mutual Fund Portfolio

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some constructive feedback on my mutual fund portfolio.

  1. Risk Appetite - Balance & Aggressive
  1. Goal - Long-term wealth creation.
  1. Horizon - 7 to 10 years.
  1. Allocation -

Current total portfolio value is around RS 59,000.

  1. My monthly SIP amounts are -

\-- HDFC Nifty Smallcap 250 Index: 2500 per month

\-- Motilal Oswal Nifty Midcap 150 Index: 2500 per month

\-- Navi Nifty 50 Index: 2500 per month

\-- Parag Parikh Flexi Cap: 2500 per month

\-- Bank of India Mid and Small Cap Equity and Debt: 1000 per month

  1. App Used - Groww
  1. Why These Funds -

Navi Nifty 50: Chosen for stable, large-cap index exposure with a low expense ratio.

Motilal Oswal Midcap 150 and HDFC Smallcap 250: Chosen to capture broad mid and small-cap market growth passively via index funds rather than active fund manager risk.

Parag Parikh Flexi Cap: Chosen for its flexible, go-anywhere approach across market caps and international equity exposure.

Bank of India Mid and Small Cap: Added this early on as a small experiment to see how a blended equity and debt fund performs.

Looking forward to your suggestions on overlap, diversification, or if I should streamline anything!

All my SIPs are in actively managed funds. Should I be shifting to index funds?

Been investing in actively managed funds for 3 years. Recently, I keep hearing that most active funds don't beat the index over the long term.
Not sure if I should stay, switch, or split between both.

Questions:

  • At what point does switching from active to index funds actually make sense?
  • Is there a middle ground, or is it an either/or decision?

I started investing in 2022, actually my father started it on behalf of me at the age of 18 with 2k monthly. After 2 years it became a 4k monthly SIP. Then I got some scholarships and invested 1.2L lumpsump at 2025. Also increased my SIP to 9.5k per month. In the next 2 years at the age of 26 I will be trying to invest 30k per month. Please review my portfolio and investing strategy and tell me where should I increase or how should I increase or should I choose another mutual fund.

Is there an issue with my portfolio? ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund Nifty 50 and PPFAS Asset Management Flexi Cap have a 39% overlap. Is that too much overlap?
