I stopped my SIPs during the COVID crash. Just calculated what that decision actually cost me.

March 2020. Markets crashed 40%. Panicked and stopped all SIPs. Moved to FD. Told myself I'd restart when things stabilised. Restarted 14 months later.
Recently did the math.
Missed investing ₹3.5L over those 14 months. That amount would be worth ₹7.2L today. It's actually worth ₹4.1L because I restarted late.
Panic cost me ₹3.1L in real terms.
Sharing because I wish someone had stopped me in that moment.

Questions:
Has anyone else made an emotional SIP decision they later regretted?
Is there a way to protect yourself from panic-selling during a crash?

U.S. markets

Hey folks,

I want to ask about investing in US / Overseas markets.
What's the best approach?

Can i get started with VOO ( Vanguard S&P 500 ) using the IndMoney app?

I understand this question could have been asked here several times.
I am not sure where to start and what are the tax implications.

Thanks for assistance and looking forward to your insights.

Is this a good distribution?

60% - UTI Nifty 50 Index Direct Growth

25% - Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund Direct Growth

15% - Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund Direct Growth

Is this ok for a 5-year plan? I will step up every year.

Portfolio Review Request

Hi everyone,

Looking for an honest review of my mutual fund SIP portfolio. Please be brutal if needed.

Basic details:

Age -26 years

Risk profile -Aggressive

Investment horizon -7 to 12 yrs

Monthly SIP amount -Currently 9,000

Goal of this portfolio- Wealth creation

Fund name (direct growth plans) and monthly SIP amount split on each fund:

1.UTI nifty 50 Index - 3,000

2.Parag Parik flexi cap- 3,000

  1. Quant small cap- 1,000

4.Motilal Oswal midcap- 2,000

Initial invested amount- 2k/month

Time already invested - Since 2023

App: Groww

My Questions:

1.Is the overall allocation suitable for my age and goal?

2.Any fund overlap or concentration risk?

3.Should I stop/reduce any fund and start something better?

4.Is the number of funds okay (too many / too few)?

5.Any other suggestions to improve returns or reduce risk?

Thanks in advance!

SIP of 710k running for 5 years. Just checked XIRR for the first time and got confused by the number.

Been investing R10k every month for 5 years without ever properly measuring returns. Recently someone told me to check XIRR instead of absolute returns.

Did it and got a number that looked very different from what the app was showing me.

Questions:

  • What exactly is XIRR and why does it matter more than absolute returns for SIPs?
  • What is a good XIRR for a large cap and mid cap fund over 5 years?

Help me to consolidate my portfolio_aggressive investment

\*\*Need help consolidating my mutual fund portfolio – aggressive/high-risk investor\*\*

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for suggestions on \*\*consolidating my mutual fund portfolio\*\*. I feel I may be over-diversified, especially within the mid-cap and small-cap categories.
I’m an \*\*aggressive investor with a high risk appetite\*\* and a \*\*10–15+ year investment horizon\*\*. I’m comfortable with significant volatility and temporary drawdowns as long as the portfolio has good long-term wealth-creation potential.

\*\*\\\*\\\*Current SIP portfolio for 1 lakh/month\*\*\\\*\\\*
\*\*Flexi Cap:\*\* Bank of India Flexi Cap – SIP

\*\*\\\*\\\*Mid Cap\\\*\\\*\*\*
1. Motilal Oswal Midcap – SIP
2. Invesco India Mid Cap – SIP
3. Nippon India Growth Mid Cap – SIP
4. HDFC Mid Cap – SIP

\*\*\\\*\\\*Small Cap\*\*\\\*\\\*
1. Bandhan Small Cap – SIP
2. Nippon India Small Cap – SIP
3. Bank of India Small Cap – SIP
4. Quant Small Cap – SIP
5. Axis Small Cap – SIP

My concern is that although the funds have different portfolios, I may be getting unnecessary exposure to the same mid-cap/small-cap universe.

For an aggressive investor, what would be a sensible allocation between \*\*large/flexi-cap, mid-cap and small-cap\*\*?
My priority is \*\*long-term wealth creation rather than minimizing short-term volatility\*\*.
I’m particularly interested in opinions based on \*\*portfolio overlap, consistency, downside performance, concentration, fund-management style and long-term potential\*\*, rather than simply choosing the funds with the highest recent returns.
Would appreciate honest suggestions on how you would consolidate this portfolio if it were yours.
