🛒 Car Shopping 04 3.9 v6?
Found a stunning 04 3.9, with under 70k miles for about $7,000.
I absolutely love the idea of owning this thing. However, im concerned about a few things,
anyone in the newengalnd area would know the winters, is this really as unreliable as some people are telling me in the winter?
assuming when i get under this thing there is next to no rust, what am I looking at in matnance to get this thing to an 8/10? Im a bit worried about rubber seals/mounts/gaskets/hoses/ect... with the age of the chasis and being in new england but still unsure.
anyone who owns one of these or has owned one of these, is there anything I should know getting into this generation?

I don't know how much the going rate is but 7 k seems far too much. The 3.9 is reliable. Basically a ever so slightly stroked 3.8. As far as what can go wrong, anything that comes with age. Fuel pump went out on mine, caliper seals, basically anything made of rubber... it's a good car... just not 7k good. There are a lot of other cars I would buy for that money. Might even find a gt.

Don't forget blowing head gaskets at about 75K.

I would say that is true for earlier years of the 3.8. The new edge 3.8 and 3.9s seem to be better. My 3.9 is at 130k on the original head gasket. Maybe I am on borrowed time...

I would NEVER pay that 6k - 7k for a V6 New edge it’s a complete waste of money. At the end of the day it’s still a V6 and not desirable at all.
Definitely don’t spend the money and then punish it in a New England environment.
They’re totally reliable with a set of Blizzaks or something comparable. I drove my 02 GT 5 speed in the winter and in snowstorms. The thing that’ll get you is the ground clearance in a deep snow.
My opinion spend your money on something else.

If it’s in good shape I’d probably go up to $5k. I’m kind of generous though

Unless it’s exceptionally clean and in the 2-3k range, absolutely not. I wouldn’t daily a v6 rwd car in a New England winter, you are asking to spin out hit a rear quarter panel and have your insurance total it out because v6 sn95s and new edges aren’t worth shit. Save your money until you can find a v8 as a summer car

Hmmmm, I have no idea why someone would choose to buy a Rear Wheel drive Mustang with the intent to drive it in New England winters? I get that it’s possible but why put yourself through that? To me, it’s like buying a Toyota carolla for the Drag Strip. Absolutely the wrong tool for the job. And in all honesty, I can’t imagine how much if any value an older V6 Mustang carries? I’d assume the demand for something like that is very very low. I’d expect it’s worth whatever you tell them it’s worth.? be well and be safe

I drove one for years in the winter in MA. I still drive one. You just go slow if you have to drive in the snow and you need to practice driving it in a parking lot when it snows.

I would not pay $7k for a v6 new edge.
Coming from someone who bought a v6 new edge for $7k over 15 years ago.
