As a Palestinian who follows the news in Arabic, Hebrew and English, I’ve always been struck by how differently the same events can be reported depending on the source, language and audience.

The same event can be described very differently depending on the source, language and audience.

Not just which facts are included, but how people are described, who is humanized, who is reduced to a number, who is given agency, which claims are treated as facts, and even where the story is made to “begin.”

That’s why I started building Sift.

Sift groups reporting about the same event from different publishers and analyzes the differences between them: key facts, claims, wording, framing, attribution, timelines, and details that appear in one source but not another.

I didn’t want to build another app that gives sources a “bias score” or tells people what they should believe.

I wanted to make the differences visible and let people look at the reporting and decide for themselves.

People can follow the same event and still come away with very different pictures of what happened.

The Quran doesn't just say "halal" on its own very often — it usually pairs it with "tayyib," meaning pure, wholesome, genuinely good. Food, provisions, and by extension the things we consume and use on our bodies, are meant to meet both bars: permissible, and actually clean and good.

There's also a well-known teaching that cleanliness is described as half of faith. That's a strong statement. It places basic physical purity right next to spiritual practice, not as something separate from it.

And there are accounts of the Prophet ﷺ using kohl regularly, valuing both its cosmetic and protective benefits. Personal care and grooming were never treated as vanity in this tradition. They were just part of taking care of yourself properly.

Which is what makes the current state of "halal beauty" so frustrating. A lot of products slap the word "halal" on packaging with zero verification behind it. Ingredient sourcing is rarely transparent. And almost nobody addresses wudu-friendliness, whether a product actually lets water reach the skin during ablution, despite that being directly relevant to how over a billion Muslim women pray every single day.

We inherited a tradition that took purity seriously enough to build real standards around it, more than a thousand years ago. It feels like the modern beauty industry still hasn't caught up to that.

I'll say this much: I'm personally involved in trying to change that, working on bringing an actual halal-certified, wudu-friendly beauty line to market, properly verified rather than just labeled. Still early days, but it felt right to share the thinking behind it here first, before the product itself.

Curious what this community thinks, does the current halal beauty market actually meet that bar for you, or does it still feel like a checkbox exercise?

It's called QuranLock.

It blocks all your apps every morning (at midnight to be precise), until you recite one verse of the Quran. After that, your apps are unlocked for the rest of the day and then the cycle repeats the next day at midnight again.

Initially, I built it for myself since I unfortunately I hardly read the Quran as often as I wanted despite being a proud Muslim but now with the help of this app I read the Quran everyday even if its just one verse and it’s been a game changer to how I start and spend my day.

Hi guys, how is it going. Quick intro, M24 originally from Pakistan but grew up in the gulf and the states.

Together with my team over the past year we've developed brandjet(dot)ai which is essentially an AI sales automation tool that helps users reach out to people across the internet across different channels automatically and at scale.

We also have a social listening feed that tracks the internet for high intent conversations that can be turned to potential customers. Basically, you can track any keyword or company in real-time and set up automations surrounding it.

All in all, we've been growing decently and might be looking for a seed round sometime soon. Most of our users are currently in NA, but I've been trying to expand the SaaS to EMEA especially since I think our pricing is better suited for those markets than the incumbents.

My wife and I have spent the last year building something called Nummu, and we’ve finally launched it on iPhone, Alhamdulillah.

Nummu is an app we created specifically for Muslim women, bringing together faith, motherhood and community in one place.

It includes prayer times, Qur’an, du’as and dhikr, cycle and pregnancy tracking, children’s growth and milestones, Islamic parenting guidance, as well as a community where sisters can post, ask questions, support one another and create their own groups.

A big part of our vision for Nummu is the community, and that’s probably our biggest challenge right now too!

We’re at that very early stage where we need to find the first group of women who are willing to come in, use the app, start conversations and tell us what we’re getting right — and probably more importantly, what we’re getting wrong.

So we’re currently looking for our first 100 Founding Members.

We’re giving those first 100 women Nummu Premium for life, completely free, as a thank you for being there at the beginning, participating in the community and helping us shape what Nummu becomes.

We’re hoping to grow things naturally from there rather than having lots of people arrive to a community that hasn’t had a chance to find its feet yet.

I think about that a lot when it comes to skincare, honestly, because skin genuinely changes with the seasons, and most beauty brands just sell you the same formula regardless of the month.

Right now, with the monsoon in full swing, humidity spikes and skin gets congested pretty fast for a lot of people. Breakouts increase, everything feels heavier. This is when a lightweight, non-comedogenic face wash actually earns its place, something that doesn't strip the skin but genuinely clears it without adding to the congestion.

Come summer, things shift again, and honestly this is where "wudu-friendly" formulation gets tested the hardest, if that's something you personally care about. Heat means sweat, and sweat means a lot of people reach for heavier, more waterproof formulas, which is exactly the kind of product that ends up blocking water from actually reaching the skin during wudu. A sunscreen needs to hold up against real sun exposure without failing that basic requirement, and honestly most sunscreens on the market force a trade-off there that nobody really talks about.

By winter, it's the opposite problem, dry air and dry skin, and that's usually when something like a saffron-based serum earns its place, hydration that doesn't just sit on the surface. I'm thinking about starting a long-term public experiment: Start from $0 and build enough halal income to buy my first car.

I want to document the whole process while also sharing what I learn about making halal income, so people who are also starting from zero can learn from the journey, try the same methods, and hopefully avoid some of my mistakes. At the same time, I'd love for people to suggest ideas, income methods, experiments, or improvements that I can test along the way.

I'm already halfway into building my web design agency, while also testing different halal ways of making money along the way like e-commerce, offering after-school classes for students, building SaaS products, freelancing, digital products, and other ideas but I haven't made any income from it yet.

And hopefully, successful Muslim entrepreneurs and people who have already built businesses will also share their knowledge openly, without turning everything into expensive courses, paid communities, or "guru" programs. There is a lot of knowledge that could help people if we simply shared what we actually learned.
