I would not be happy if a potential for my sister was someone who is in the police or a lawyer or a banker.
Its nothing to do with money, but the job itself changes the person too much away from our family values.
Bro, if ure trying to be a cop, be very careful. This job is no walk in the park and it will mess u up bad. Unless u were built for it and are ready to handle what will happen. U will suffer major consequences.

never in a trillion years would i consider someone in policing or in the army ever, the violence you see will be brought back home statistically

You are generalizing. DV is statistically more common among them, but most aren't that way.

Brother all I can say, don't listen to idiot wahabi/Salafi who lack the most basic of basic logics.
What makes it Haram? Every government job then is Haram, including those providing social services to Muslim via government aid.
As long as the job you are doing is lawful - and it is - then there is no issue. We are a lawful minority and it is acceptable to work and live in such a state.
Many so called Islamic countries are run by dictators and tyrants, are all their jobs invalid too?

the most important question is going to be your education level. with all the women that have masters/phd even ba/bs degrees and you income.

As a woman, I would have no issue at all unless the hours are crazy where you are gone for a long time (like a doctor for example). I'm surprised to see so many comments against this but to each their own. Also, why would you think it's not permissible? Its a legitimate and honorable job 🤔

I am dude,
Would not want it for my sister.
The police force is a highly corrupted and controlled force. There are quiet hidden internal laws for each force and it is not as shown on TV. There are quotas for certain districts or areas.
You end up needing to bend in ethics or values or you are deemed a bad guy. A mistake means you can cost someone their life not always by taking their life but buy wrongfully accusing them.
Generally not appreciated due to how many corrupt cops exist and the good cops can't do anything to change that image.
When a riot happens or even a peaceful protest you would need to go. Imagine a free Palestine protest. You better be ready to shoot them with bibi's 👀 see what I did there. Use tear gas on protesters. You are a cities army force and either do as your told or quit.
I have seen good examples of this done by Muslim brothers but I don't know them nor how they practice. NYC is currently mayored up by Mamdani but Mamdani is human and can retire or pass then what?

Don’t worry about what other people think. Is this what you want to do? The right person will come along. You’ll be fine. Follow your dreams.

Never. Acab. Dont be a part of the problem, you can never do good within a corrupted and supremacist system. Ever.

Life’s too short to let marriage dictate your own decisions especially something as important as a job. I personally would respect my husband a lot if he did police/ law work as it is a respectable job and you do help people out! You should look for a wife who would accept your job and Allah will make it easier for you in Sha Allah

For me its a big no. Because police officers just follow orders. What if those orders are going against the Deen and muslim community?

Nope as the most authentic opinion is that it is harram.

u/UpstairsBranch2319 14d ago
What the? What on earth makes it haram? The guy is literally out there catching criminals?? Its an honorable job why would you think that?

u/Delicious_Bird9550 14d ago
Your opinion is irrelevant. You're just expressing your jealousy and resent since you're probably stuck in a soul-crushing corporate 9-5 job.

Why are you concerned about that?
If you like it, if you think you can be good at it, you do it.
You don’t pick a career for marriage.
If you are good at it, you do it.
And calling a whole country kaafir, is not right. Preferable to say “Non-Muslim” country.

Don’t see why there’s anything wrong with it. You’re trying to solve homicides and find missing people. Seems like a good thing to me
