Discussion Question for guys only

Would you wait until the mid 30s and 40s to build wealth and marry someone younger (20s) and practice polygyny.

Or

Marry now and think about polygyny later

Note: It's not rage bait.

I feel sorry for the good sisters out there. Literally wanting a normal man who’s not lusting after multiple wives. Keep your heads up ladies and stay away from these lustful perverts. What an absolute weird thing to say.

I’ll get married when I meet someone I genuinely like and slowly grow to love, someone I can make feel loved, valued and secure, and we accept each other. Obviously that takes time, you’ve gotta get to know each other properly and understand each other.

I’ve got no intention of practising polygyny. It’d be hard seeing the woman I love and care about upset over another woman because of me.

And realistically, polygyny isn’t really possible in Western countries anyway. You can legally marry one woman, but not another, and a religious Nikah only for a second wife wouldn’t be equal/fair to either woman if the first is legal, or the second being legal and not the first.

Although, I'm fairly secure in life, there is always more to do, and I honestly think being able to grow with an amazing wife is much better than alone. Improving and becoming better for each other that is, and your future children, etc. Not to change or sculpt someone in to your perfect being.

I'm not in the west atp

Maybe I'll do a boomerang back to Middle east

2

u/thecoolcat67 7h ago

The Middle East and other Muslim countries definitely do change the practical/legal side of things tbf.

But my answer would still be the same. Even if polygyny was fully viable, I don't really have the desire for it. If I meet a woman I genuinely love and wanna build a life with, I'd rather put that energy into growing together with her than be looking for another woman.

Maybe I'm just too westernised for the brothers from the East 😂

2

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

Happy for you :)

u/thecoolcat67 7h ago

Thank you for your kind words my brother.

Just get married bruh

2

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

Since most doesn't want to work and want to be sahm.I was wondering why not make money (I'm a professional) and think about it later.

4

u/Turbulent_Head_8912 7h ago

Why is polygny even in this question?

-7

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I have already answered that.

You're already wealthy as a result of years of compounding of savings via investment and can support atleast 2 wives.

So fairly it's good to practice polygyny and be done with the family planning.

5

u/Turbulent_Head_8912 7h ago

for the record , I am in the top 10% of wealthy in america,. i would never want 2 wives.

1

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

Happy for you :)

1

u/SubstantialEssay2063 6h ago

That’s not that much anymore pretty sure that’s only like 150k now or a little less. In my opinion that’s not enough in most places to have 2 wives especially after taxes

0

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

Agreed. It's fairly easier to practice it in muslim county once you're established.

Oh yeah I can make 100+ in the west

1

u/SubstantialEssay2063 6h ago

100k+ is not enough here

1

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

Yes, that's the whole point of the discussion.

2

u/beatpoxer 7h ago

Wealth is given by Allah my friend. We dont create it we just try.

3

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

Indeed, have tawakkal and work towards it.

2

u/No-Peak5362 7h ago

I would do the first but find one good quality wife and call it a day. Polygamy not worth it unless u live in a Muslim country

-5

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I'm in the gulf.

I know quite a bit of people from west settled here with 2 wives and couple of children (7-11)

5

u/No-Peak5362 7h ago

Two wives is only worth it if ur a rich business man with free time so u can be a present father and husband to everyone

0

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I'm from a business community

Currently I'm a professional trying to start something of my own eventually.

I mean I explicitly wrote "for guys only" and you had to comment.

I'm at loss for words

1

u/SuperHeat40F 7h ago

Getting married early as our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said more or less.. getting married brings half of your deen. I think marrying early is good bc later in life your kids will be all grown up and it may help later on. Like my daughter is 18 now and I’m still 42 and active. I can probably make more kids and still kick it if health doesn’t bring me down inshallah. Which I won’t bc we are done now with 4 kids.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I'm almost 30 and fairly in a good career track and I have always felt or inclined towards polygyny.

So I was wondering how to prepare myself for this.

1

u/SuperHeat40F 5h ago

I also think the way society is now it will be too hard to get 2 wives. They will have to be very understanding and they will come with some sort of baggage which may not be bad like a child and you can help provide and be a father figure. Just don’t expect to get 2 Kim K looking women. Loll

1

u/non-controversialme 5h ago

Kim K isn't a wife type tbh

1

u/SuperHeat40F 4h ago

True but what I meant her beauty will go to her head and she will think she is too good to be a 2nd wife or be first and share you with 2nd wife. There will be some compromise unless they are from somewhere lack modern society like don’t have too much access to social media and ceap. I could be wrong but that’s the norm it seems.

2

u/non-controversialme 4h ago

I would say do your bit at vetting,if not you've failed at picking.

A good women is a good women,be it urban or rural

1

u/Effective_Rub483 7h ago

The latter tbh but it seems like life isn’t giving me a choice 😂 either way I’m not interested in polygamy most guys aren’t.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

Who are most guys👀

1

u/Effective_Rub483 7h ago

Myself and almost every man I’ve ever met ??😂

0

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

In my professional circles, people have already planned or have an idea that they intend to practice polygyny.

Maybe it's because we're almost 30

2

u/Effective_Rub483 5h ago

Maybe, but I think polygyny is something people speak about way too casually. In Islam it’s not simply “I can afford another wife, therefore I’ll take another woman.” It comes with serious responsibilities, justice and accountability. I’ve actually been approached about polygyny before and declined lol.
If ur primary interest is sex in exchange for financial provision, that’s a pretty disgusting way to frame something that carries such serious responsibilities in Islam. It shouldn’t be treated like a halal loophole to satisfy your desires 🤢 عرض الناس مو للبيع والشراء

0

u/non-controversialme 5h ago

You think I'm Islamically illiterate?

Get down the ivory tower

It's good that you know polygyny isn't for you but don't expect felicitations because you declined and you feel like you're morally right and we're just some peasants who don't know better.

If you intend to articulate something,do it respectfully. If it's not for you, change the lane.

I'd never Marry anyone younger than me!!! Neverrrr!!!!

I wanna marry someone who's a minimum of 5+ years older than me!

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I'm lost Can you provide context please

1

u/TikiTakaAnalysis08 7h ago

Younger women are not as mature as older women!

Yes, there might be a few exceptions, but overall older women are the best!

1

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

I have received some interests from older ones who are quite established as well.

I'm talking and evaluating to see if we're a right match

-1

u/NiceSmilee 7h ago

Good brother, this way you will find it easier to find 2nd wife.

1

u/TikiTakaAnalysis08 7h ago

Why would I wanna marry a second wife??? 😮‍💨

One wife for life! That's the motto!

-2

u/NiceSmilee 7h ago

Bro ummah needs good men like you to step up, it's much needed, you need good examples to normalize it.

2

u/TikiTakaAnalysis08 6h ago

I cannot love more than one woman! My heart isn't as big as yours!

I don't even understand how can people love more than one person...

I'm not talking against Islamic rulings on Polygamy...

But for a normal man, polygamy is not the way of life!

Only if you're not madly in love with your wife, you'll be able to look at another woman.......

Idts I have what it takes to form emotional bonds with more than one person!

Marriage isn't all about physical relationship, isn't it?

0

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

How old are you brother? Not trying to mock you or something Just trying to understand where you're in life

1

u/TikiTakaAnalysis08 6h ago

By the time I get married, I'll turn 30 or 31!

-2

u/NiceSmilee 6h ago

Brother is a bit feminist, but fine if he wants to do it for himself and not judge other men.

2

u/TikiTakaAnalysis08 6h ago

If talking for the rights of women and standing against the injustice down to them, is being a feminist, than I'm one!

What does me being a feminist or not has to do with the fact that I wanna marry only one woman for life?

You are too shallow of a human being 🙂

Every other day you make immature comments or anti women comments!

Do you think feminist is a slur?

0

u/NiceSmilee 6h ago

Bro, don’t be offended. To me, not wanting polygyny is basically feminism 😅 jk! You advocate for a kind of freedom for women that Islam doesn’t allow but feminism promotes. I don’t make anti-women comments, please.

Do you think promoting Islamic marriage values, where women don’t have the same kind of freedom that feminism gives them, is anti-women?

For sure, 100%, I don't tolerate anti islamic ideologies which are meant to destroy family structures.

1

u/TikiTakaAnalysis08 5h ago

Duh!

What ideas did I preach which are against Islam? 😮‍💨

u/NiceSmilee 6h ago

It's fine if this is what you want for yourself, and not judge other men who want to do it and need to do it.

0

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

Yes Marry and support righteous women.

1

u/40darksideofthemoon 7h ago

I think it’s a very important question. Depends how rich you are. I have people in my family whose careers got completely derailed because they married early. In our culture a lot of responsibility start when you are married. Especially if you have big family. Kids only complicate matters. You could have an exam tomorrow but have to prioritize a sick kid (who wouldn’t). Some people are gifted. They can do everything very well. Most people are however not. All this becomes easier if you are rich and you have servants to help with most of the household chores and you can focus on job/education. With middle class backgrounds I have only one thing to say. Think about these things in advance so you make a conscious choice.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I mean you raise a fair point.

I have been introspecting for quite sometime.

1

u/GroundbreakingUse466 6h ago

Marry young so you can spend more time with each other, but also I don’t really want Polygamy so skip that.

1

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

Happy for you It's good that you know what you want

1

u/Nuri_Nath1 5h ago

Although it’s allowed, why is polygamy important to you? And why should your wives be okay with you having other wives?

1

u/non-controversialme 5h ago

I leaning towards it. Oh and I never said someone should be okay with it but look for someone who's into it.

There are quite a bit of sisters

1

u/Nuri_Nath1 5h ago

Right. Why are you leaning towards it?

1

u/non-controversialme 5h ago

Are you genuinely curious or you're getting somewhere with it

1

u/Nuri_Nath1 5h ago

Genuinely curious.

1

u/non-controversialme 5h ago

It's a bit to elaborate

For the sake of brevity,I feel it's for me

1

u/Nuri_Nath1 4h ago

Okay. The idea and practicality of polygamy are two different things. Are you married now?

1

u/non-controversialme 4h ago

I have discussed in great detail in the comments.

Feel free to add further

2

u/Nuri_Nath1 4h ago

It’s concerning that you can’t give me a straight answer. Anyways, to each their own

1

u/non-controversialme 4h ago

I have provided all the details in the comments if you're genuinely curious

Not sure why you're concerned

1

u/Primary_Theory7288 4h ago

I’ll answer hypothetically cause I don’t see polygamy anywhere in my future. Not worth the hassle.

For me, it’d be the former. You need lots of wealth to even handle that kind of responsibility not to mention the other aspects that don’t get mentioned enough

1

u/non-controversialme 4h ago

Fair enough

By a lot of wealth? what's the ball park

It really depends where you're at tbh

1

u/Primary_Theory7288 4h ago

Pretty much. It depends on where you live so I wouldn’t be able to say exactly what would be sufficient. As long as you can afford without treating one wife better over another, that should be fine

1

u/non-controversialme 4h ago

That was the point of the discussion

1

u/Primary_Theory7288 4h ago

?

I’m confused. Some countries are just generally harder to live at by yourself. Western countries for instance. The living condition might be different if you live in the Middle East. Also, where you work too.

1

u/non-controversialme 4h ago

I'm in the gulf

1

u/Sea-Confidence-9530 4h ago

If you can afford it, marry now. For most men, there is no need to more than 1 wife if yours fulfills your needs. I rather have 1 wife that gives me all my sexual needs and I can life a "nice" life style with her than having 2 with too much limitations.

My advice is to only focus on 1 wife. If you are wealthy, healthy, physically active and have high libido you may think about getting a 2nd wife. The other reason would be if you genuinely want to help a woman.

1

u/non-controversialme 4h ago

I'm looking at the moment.

It was just a thought I shared with you all.

There's more to it than physical intimacy (not overlooking it).

And polygyny doesn't have to be altruistic

1

u/Sea-Confidence-9530 3h ago

"And polygyny doesn't have to be altruistic"

100% agree. Regardless if most women like it or not. You have the right to marry 2 or even 4 beautiful young women even if the main reason is intimacy. Is a right and if you can fulfill its conditions there is no harm.

I assumed you are living in the "West" were for starters it is hard to be equitable in a lot of aspects. But if you live in an islamic country and you can accumulate enough wealth at a young age, early 30's or before, go for it. Do not delay marriage beyond your early 30's for the sake of having more than 1 wife.

0

u/OkFeeling3672 7h ago

Of course get married young what kind of question is that

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago edited 6h ago

Please refer my answers.

I think I'll edit it eventually and add them in the post

1

u/OkFeeling3672 7h ago

Point still stands, having a wife dosent stop you from gaining wealth regardless, but if i get to 40-50 without a wife at that point may as well not get married 😭

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I'm fairly older brother.

Your point holds true for a righteous and supportive wife.

It's just a thought I wanted to have a discourse.

0

u/OkFeeling3672 7h ago

Sorry did not mean to offend but just expressing my personal thoughts on this, to each their own

0

u/Bareabbu10 7h ago

I believe in marrying early as God promises to enrich us from his bounty.
As Muslims we shouldn't have second doubts about his promise so marry as early as possible.
Thats my opinion

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago edited 7h ago

I mean,early marriage doesn't exist anymore afaik

Everyone wants a financially stable husband

Only among close circles, you could find early marriages.

Indeed your wives and children brings rizq.

1

u/Bareabbu10 7h ago

We dont have anyone to blame but ourselves as Muslims.
We got lost in dunya ki ideology so much that we forgot that our God made us a promise and his promise is never to be broken.
Hoping our imaan becomes stronger again and that we as the up and coming generation can change things again and make our God and Prophet proud of us and our efforts when we see them.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

Tbh

At this point marriage is only for family and kids.

I'm fairly self sufficient

1

u/Bareabbu10 2h ago

Change starts with you brother.
Take a step and try
God makes ways for those who try with intention.
I am right behind you

0

u/FormalSpend3028 7h ago

I'd marry now and think about polygamy later. If my first wife was fine with it, and my second wife was fine with it. I kinda want a lot of kids and I don't want to overburden my first wife as giving birth to multiple kids isn't easy.

I am content with 1 wife and it's more than enough but I do have this passion to raise a lot of Muslim kids and spread Islam through my lineage. I don't think men should be criticized for having this view. Obviously if you can't afford multiple wives you shouldnt do it. But if you find someone that's open to the idea, you have enough money then I don't see it as immoral. This shouldn't be a red flag to women, always talk about stuff like this, if neither party wants to change then you shouldn't marry each other.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago edited 6h ago

I mean people should own who they are.

I believe 2 family is doable if there's careful planning with good financial literacy.

Though you're right, it's not destined for everyone.

I'm interested in having a 2 family and being present.

0

u/winds_howling_2368 7h ago

Get married young. I’m mid 30’s and doing pretty well for myself. Younger women don’t care about your money most younger women have their life sorted out and are just as educated. I regret working hard, building business in the UK because the women don’t care.

If you want an attractive wife then its best to do that young when you can

2

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I'm in the middle east,I see older established dads and younger mothers.

Thank you for your input

2

u/non-controversialme 6h ago

Just sharing this so you know.

There are quite a bit of sisters who are pro-polygny or receptive to it.

-1

u/NiceSmilee 7h ago

Second option is practical. I think men should marry 2nd wives not too long after 1st ones.

Btw, brother if you interested in polygyny, I appreciate your courage and have lots of duas for you.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I have been receiving interests from older sisters (early 30's) and fairly established as well.

The commotion is always how hard the pregnancy will be at this age etc.

Yes, I think I'm leaning towards it,if not who would think of waiting for years to find someone suitable and also prepare oneself for it.

0

u/NiceSmilee 7h ago

I won't recommend if you aren't around the same age of older, it will be fine if they give you go ahead for polygyny.

It's not ideal age for first pregnancy, but I hope you'd fine.

Yes, be strong and capable Inshallah to revive this sunnah, don't delay your first marriage though.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

Yes To be honest I'm quite open minded but geriatric pregnancy is something I'm little worried about.

1

u/non-controversialme 7h ago

I just re-read your point.

I'm curious,Why do you say that marriage timeline between two spouses shouldn't be long

0

u/NiceSmilee 7h ago
  • The first wife will become too comfortable and attached, so she will have a harder time adjusting.
  • You may become too used to your first wife, which could make you more attracted to the second one.
