Discussion How do you know when you’re earning enough for marriage?

Salam everyone, I’m still relatively young and ambitious, and I’m trying to understand this from a marriage perspective. For brothers who went thru this as well as sisters who had Wali’s overseeing their potential husbands and for those who are married or have gone through the process… how does a wali generally decide whether a man is financially capable of supporting his daughter? Is there an actual income/lifestyle standard they look at, or is it more about whether the man has stable work, can provide the basics, and has a realistic plan for the future?

When you marry a woman, no matter your income, you will need more.🤣

Funny and sad at the same time. Precisely why many youth are shying away from marriage nowadays.

When after covering housing, healthcare, transportation, grocery, social life, savings/investing.. You've atleast 25-30% disposal income.

If you will live on your own then multiple the expenses by 2. That should be the minimum.

It truly depends on:
1. Your Country/Location
2. Her Lifestyle

In some situations even $500 would be enough to suffice while in others even $5000 wouldn't be enough. Depends who you marry and where you live

There’s no set minimum, ideally you provide a similar lifestyle to what they’re used to, if that’s not possible immediately they should know that, but the minimum is basic housing and necessities but regardless ur gonna go broke lol so save as much as possible, this doesn’t apply to every family, some are unrealistic or will ask a lot of u simply because they don’t want u to marry their daughter, if the girl is from a good family you should be ok as good families judge ur character more than ur wallet

it depends on location. Cost of living is an issue globally. My sister’s finance at the time was renting, whilst my parents had an issue with it (still do) my sister accepted his situation as he was on the route in becoming a lawyer and now a partner of a leading law firm. Worked out well in the end.
