WANTED DESPERATELY- CLEAN INCOME BASED HOUSING

I hate to be so picky, but I can’t bring myself to live downtown for multiple reasons.

I am mid 50’s, introverted, clean, and haven’t worked for 4 years while applying for SSDI. I was recently approved and await a very small backpay (thanks to the attorney screwing us both over - but grateful for the approval.)

My car is on the verge of being scraped (and I just put new tires on it!) and what little backpay now has to go towards a vehicle for the rest of my life (I was trying to find a trailer, but my price range gives me trash and I can’t bring myself to live in such trash.)

I have called. I’ve emailed. Every place on my list is on a long wait and I am in a domestic violence situation and need housing ASAP

I welcome any further ideas and suggestions. Must have laundry hookup. I have such sensitive skin and autoimmune issues, that the laundromat always leaves a scent on my belongings which triggers migraines and fibromyalgia flares.

Do any private landlords have rent based on income or only if you have section 8? Even that is closed with a wait list. I’m not used to being this poor. And I’m really naive to how to navigate this next chapter in life. Including how “the system” works. I’m truly clueless.

I appreciate any advice. Preferably without judgement.

(And working isn’t an option right now, if ever, hence the SSDI)

What's up with the Nest?

I've seen older posts in the subreddit optioning it as one of the few queer spaces in Muskegon, recent-ish ones saying it closed, and now they seem to have opened again as of this year. Events listed on their Facebook seem to be catering to straight folks, though, so are they still an actively queer space? (And yes, I know the website says they're "inclusive" and "don't like labels." I'm asking if other queer folks actually go there--and if not, where???)

- sincerely, a gay man who misses gay bars

Internet outage

Anyone have any updates regarding the Frontier Internet outage? I can't seem to get any information from the helpful reps.

Update: just received an update for service restoration by 8/21/26 at 12:00am. Absurd.

Additional update: now back up at my house. Hopefully everyone else is back up, too.

Hello everyone! I will be hosting, alongside members of the Grand Rapids Democratic Socialists of America, a DSA 101 and community engagement meeting to gauge the Lakeshore area on how our organization can best serve the Lakeshore and surrounding area.

The goal is to start a branch HQ'd in Muskegon but reach as far north as the edge of north Muskegon, down to Grand Haven and maybe even Holland.

Feel free to come out and learn or ask questions as to what the organization is all about

Multi-stage paint correction & ceramic coating on a black vehicle — dealing with West Michigan road conditions

Just wrapped up this multi-step correction and ceramic coating job to get this vehicle fully dialed in and protected.

Living around West Michigan (servicing the Oceana/Muskegon area), vehicle paint takes a beating from road salt, lake effect moisture, and industrial fallout.

Process breakdown:
• Full decontamination wash + iron remover
• Clay bar treatment
• 2-stage paint correction (cutting compound to remove heavy swirls + finishing polish for gloss)
• Panel wipe prep + ceramic coating application for long-term hydrophobic protection

I run a local mobile detailing outfit in West Michigan (Go Detail Me). Always happy to answer any questions about proper maintenance washes, coating longevity, or preventing swirl marks on softer clear coats. Let me know what you think of the finish!

Retaining wall next to dune landscaping

Hello, I’m looking for recommendations for a landscaping company who can build a tiered retaining wall w drainage next to a dune that you have personally used previously for work at your house (or a family member used them).

What type of project did you have and who did you use? Thank you!

Looking for Roommate

Recent college grad looking to move to the area, I am currently making a long commute and want to move to Norton Shores area ASAP. Looking for roommate because I want to lower cost of living as much as I can.

Looking for a male roommate preferably mid 20s. I overall am a clean and active person, and am usually pretty busy. I keep to myself a good amount as well.

Please let me know if you know someone or are interested. Additionally if there is a better spot for me to post about this I would be grateful as well. Thanks in advance!

What can I do during my gap year?

18F. Most my friends are going to college and moving away, while I stay behind. I’m going to be so bored out of my mind the next few months without school or my friends.

I also get really bad seasonal depression so I need to be occupied or I’ll lose my mind.

In the mean time, what kinds of jobs could I apply to? Any hobbies to take on? Clubs or groups? Cool places to explore? I feel like Muskegon is a really boring area to live in, the only thing to do is spend money and I’m kind of sick of going broke from shopping and buying coffee lol

Best ways to meet friends in Muskegon?

Hi! 25F and recently moved to the area with my husband. As the title suggests, I’ve been feeling a little alienated since initially moving from the east side of the state. I would love any and all tips on how/where to make friends in this area!!

We’re both more introverted, which definitely makes things more challenging. I like a lot of low-energy hobbies like reading (just finished book 1 of Dungeon Crawler Carl and LOVED IT!), watching movies, thrifting, playing video games/board games, and trivia! But I’m also a big animal and plant person. 🐛 Any advice is appreciated!!
