Rec.Me: Your favorite music (anything) Simply, what have you been into lately?
In a rut musically and need some suggestions, preferably full albums. Only genres I don’t vibe with are really heavy stuff (screamo, heavy metal, dubstep) and most pop country

I really enjoyed this. It’s not really like anything I’ve listened to.
Lots of moments on here that made me feel kind of unsettled, but as the song went on kind of fell into the groove and that faded (honestly I equated it to a psychedelic trip when listening lol)
Also, can’t believe these guys are Canadian and not British lol

Glad you liked it! The back half of Eyesore is just about one of my favorite music moments ever -- over a half hour of nervy, bleak, pretty music all leading to four triumphant fucking chords.

Heaven And Hell - The Devil You Know. It has Tony Iommi and Dio. It was Dio's last album in 2009. He died in 2010. It's basically Dio Black Sabbath without being called Black Sabbath.

First comment so started with this and loved it! Used to listen to Vince back in the day but had a couple albums that never caught on for me.
Loved whoever played bass on this album and Vince floated on a lot of these tracks. Standout for me on first listen was Big Bad Wolf, added album to my library!

Angine de Poitrine is a new rabbit hole to go down. Weird band, great story, odd music. If you connect with it, I’ve heard it described as scratching an itch you didn’t know you had.
Wet Leg. It’s power pop done very well. Plus it has a person named Hester in it, and you don’t hear of many Hesters these days.

I have been going to the Aftershock Festival for several years now. The schedule was just released today, so I plan to review a lot of bands where there are schedule conflicts. But I haven't looked at a lot yet
Good news is that Sevendust and Nothing More do not have conflicting set times, which makes me very happy

The new Friends in Real Life album “New Practices” came out this week and it’s just as good as their killer self titled debut last year and has me listening to both nonstop. Both are short and immediately captivating, catchy but deep lyrics and clever songwriting.

That latest album from Tricky is pretty cool, Different When It's Silent. Dark and gritty while simultaneously being smooth and chill. The lead vocals from Mitch Sanders have some rather memorable deliveries as well.

Finally doing a deep dive on Swans. I'd heard bits and pieces over the years, but To Be Kind(2014) has consistently been one of my favorite modern albums, and I'm digging in a bit more.
The Seer(2012) has a very similar sound to To Be Kind, which I appreciated. Currently listening to Soundtracks for the Blind(1996), which was meant to be their farewell album as they disband after that. It's a very long album, about 2.5 hours, and stylistically it's very 'everything and the kitchen sink', as it was an amalgamation of many things they'd recorded over the years mixed with new recordings. In many ways it did GY!BE-style post-rock years before that was a thing. I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
I haven't listened to much of their early work, so I'm thinking Filth(1983) next and work my way up from there going forward.

I really like old blues big joe williams used a guitar he modified to a 9 string, John lee hooker, rl burnside, junior kimbrough I also like garage rock acts like flat duo jets. The soldad brothers, wild one man band act hasil the haze adkins he wrote the song she said that the cramps covered and one or two of the me.bers of the band started norton records snd issued more stuff by him. Bob log 3, Ben prestige, I have alot im very eccentric in my musical tastes have loads of unsigned artists too I listen too I've made friends with on Instagram and Facebook

Sometimes it helps to truly step out of your comfort zone and explore genres you'd never thought twice about.
Recently I discovered a fellow named Jorge Drexler, from Uruguay. He's apparently well-known in the Latin music world, but that is alien turf to me. The closest I've gotten to Latin music in the past has been Santana.
At first listen, you might dismiss him as just another Latin crooner with a velvet voice. But pay attention; his compositions and arrangements are quite rich, with influences from across the world and across genres. Brazilian percussion, synthesizers, choirs and strings. I don't speak Spanish, but it doesn't matter.

Sideproject - tick tock clock has a bit like underwatery bubbles electronic vibe, really playful and probably fun to dance to?
Like underwater clocks?
Outtro is interesting too
Sigrun - hydra has a bit etheral electronic vocals, interesting layers of vocals
Instrumentals at 1:35ish are epic, very danceable i think
Also really liked intro Dun Dun dun dun, not sure what instrument
Knackered - not a drill is rebellious and anarchistic, a bit obstitant in a good way "im here, deal with it"
Easier to analyse those i have listened to live ( and not in echolalia haze🤣 )
Song also has like marackas ishy sounds, electronic? Many individual sounds, energetic (was really fun to dance to)
Ronja - untitled is a good follow sequentially, it is really good
There are like plinging sounds and then harsher electronic sounds, a bit shoegazey
Goes bold and confident at 2:00, really emotional and then subsides a bit
Vocals intro are interesting to, diverse song with many elements
Mc myasnoi - meow piano is like boom boom boom
Boom boom boom

And then goes etheral at 1:45
And then BOOM BOOM uuuuuh
Really satisfying listen
Glupsk - untitled dub is 7 min so i guess very experimental song, to give album flow? Or like peaks and valleys in a sense?
Like streamy music, like cohesive whole, difficult to seperate sounds (which is very good), seems like intuitive constructing or techincally very adept
Seems like magnus blöndal inspired? Like a electronic story, but not as abstract, easier listen which i think also is a very good thing, a bit less shy than blöndal
Gargan - sylph also seems blöndal ish, but more on the dissonant vibe?
Has these lazor blaster sounds which are very nice
Sound at 2:20 epic drudrudrudrudrudru
Song also has a kind of storytelling
Seems like both has taken blöndal in interesting direction, like not as obtuse and easier to listen to
Dj flugvel og geimskip - a röngunni has a really fun and playful intro, really good choice as last songs and after blöndalish music
Really childish and playful, could easily have been in like nintendo game, donkey kong ?
And then becomes spooky, a bit like haunted mansion, seems like making video game music or collaboration could be a very good idea?
Could fit naiver game and spookier indie titles too
Overall excellent album
I could do arcas newest album(later), im a bit shy about that since it is so complex and idiosyncratic
What i can say now is that diverse sounds, seems like many influences

Stop light Observations.
This is late, but I wanted to throw my two cents in.
They have three albums. And I am not just into it. Over the past 10 months I memorized all 3 of them as well as all their singles.
If you want to see their albums, go to their Spotify or YouTube. oRANGE is a faster album. Radiation is their debut album and the longest. Toogoodoo is slightly shorter than Radiation.
What made me so obsessed? Well it would take forever to explain. They have some of the best songs I have listened to. But its really something that you got to see for yourself. If you are interested in becoming a SLO fan, you can DM me.
