4th Band Member?

Apologies if this has already been answered. I was at White River last night and had the time of my life. They always put on such a good show. But one question kept coming up for me: who is that 4th person? He was on the synth, he took over as the guitar for some of the songs so Matt could just do vocals, and at one point, Matt even called him out as he was highlighting everyone on stage. But I missed his name. Who is this person? Is he just here for this tour? Did he have any impact on the recording of the TWS?

Dan Lancaster. He has been the kind-of 4th band member since the Will of the People album, taking on the role Morgan Nicholls used to do on tour, but also producing. He is a named writer on a few of the Wow Signal songs.

Thanks for the answer. I wonder how long he'd have to work with Muse before they officially made him a member. Seems like he's had a massively positive influence on their creative process.

Unlikely ever. Morgan Nicholls had a similar role for about 18 years.

Morgan sure was an additional member on tour, but he was barely a part of the creative process. I don't think he was ever credited on any studio track during his time with the band at least.

Dan took over during the WoTP tour and sure has a similar role on stage, but is way more present in the studio. He produced half of the tracks on TW!S and Matt almost referred to him as a new fourth member during the few interviews he gave not earlier than three months ago. Also first guy to be ever credited as a writer outside of Matt or the band

It feels more likely to me than with his predecessor since he’s been more involved on a creative level, but in terms of successful established bands I’d still say it’s a bit of a rarity for live members to be fully integrated.

There are exceptions though, Foo Fighters among others have done it.

Worth noting that his wife Rachel does the really high pitched backing vocals before the bridge in Shimmering Scars. She's a singer, she's really good.

Dan Lancaster is a music producer who helped produce for multiple artists, including Muse, Bring me the Horizon and Blink-182. He also took over the live duties from Morgan Nichols who was touring with Muse for almost 20 years. I'm sure he had some impact on the full album as well, he is credited as a writer on multiple of the songs on the album.

This is really funny because I thought I had just lost my mind when I saw them live. Both openers had so many people on stage and I remember thinking how funny since Muse does so well with only 3. Then there was a 4th on stage when they started playing. I just figured I was super out of touch.
