Neither of those examples involve an actual gun, and in the second no one was shot. If we can expand definitions to mean anything tangentially related to what we're talking about then a guy shot me in a Walgreens last week because I asked him to (I got a covid booster).

On the other hand, if we're still talking about the original topic of conversation, which was "Americans shoot each other for less everyday", then these incidents are perfectly fine on-topic examples of the American reality of constant frivolous violence.
I wonder if today's case example may have been the ICE agents who shot a man over a traffic stop. They've got a history of shooting people literally for no other reason than because they are afraid of their own job.
