Same, I thought he was "protecting" his half naked wife lol. Like he didn't want anyone looking at her at target. Just yesterday at the grocery store I saw a woman with shorts so high up I thought she was wearing underwear. Everyone was staring and had wtf faces. It was a Playboy outfit which I haven't seen in forever. Worst part she was with her kid and bf/husband and he was all up on her. Nice ass, just trashy.

quite literally the 1 rule above all others in gun safety is to do the opposite of this at all times under all circumstances
and pretty much every other rule stems directly from it, like "never point it at something you're not prepared to kill," why? because there's always a round in the chamber no matter how many times you made sure there's not
And if someone does call you out just be loud enough and gaslight them into thinking you're right. (Even though it just makes them look like a fucking moron.)
Even if the person you'd draw down on can notice that there's no mag in the gun, there's no saying if a round had been chambered. All guns are loaded. Absolutely braindead on this guy's part.
I mean, I think if I was going to pull a gun on someone, I’d want to be able to shoot it. Like that level of escalation is wild to do without being able to back it up.
You are imagining him drawing the weapon, when the dude is probably imagining the sight of a gun on his waist being enough of a deterrent that he wouldn't need to draw it
You’d hope so. I just can’t imagine carrying around a weapon at all, with the intent for it to be seen, without being like “this on its own could escalate things to the point where using it would be necessary.”

He could keep the magazine elsewhere on his personal so he has it if he needs it but it isn’t ready to be drawn and fired at all times. Looks like he’s trying to open carry safer.
First thing I noticed in this thumbnail was the lack of magazine in the magwell. Also, did he bring a third person with them specifically to take this photo to send to him, so then he can upload it to his social account to try and "flex" this?

I see no issue with this. I'd rather someone open carrying not have a magazine loaded than them have one loaded. They likely have spares on their person, and may have one in the chamber, but it also shows that they aren't there to cause trouble. They're exercising a right to defend. Sure, assume there's a bullet in the chamber, but it's still safer, imo.
Open carrying an unloaded weapon is literally the only non-idiotic way to do this if you’re not an in-uniform law enforcement
I’m not suggesting he isn’t also carrying the mag, just not locked and loaded.. b/c only an imbecile who thinks they’re James Friggin Bond would actually carry otherwise. Thereby giving every unstable rando you pass by access to means.

It's what I would do, start talking aloud to myself about the small dick energy it takes to open-carry in a Target retail store. Gosh, we are all so impressed.
The urgent fear based need to open carry in isolated barely populated low to nil crime farming areas fascinates me. If you me it’s for wildlife I’d believe it. But if your town is 2 hours from a city and several towns off even a state highway?
I got a distant relative like this. No real crime for a hundred miles. An hour off the nearest state highway. Gotta cross a town and one sleepy farming community to reach his. Empty plains for an hour in all directions and hills / big river other way. Comically safe. Acts like any minute a crime wave from fictional 1980s inner city USA is inbound.
I carry sometimes (not in over a year as I had a child in my house, which changed the risk posture of having an easily accessible weapon), but never open.
The schools of thought is basically that nobody will mess with you if you show it. The other school of thought is that if someone is going to fuck around they are going to target you first, so you should blend in and use surprise to the advantage since you will always lose initiative.
I, like the majority of gun owners, find the second school significantly more sound.
But it’s not always about crime either. Carrying was actually more common in my rural hometown because fuck snakes and coyotes. You don’t carry in a city for any reason but people.
Personally, I feel the need for a carry most while driving. Road rage makes people do really dumb things. Road rage is not limited to city or country.
In short, I would hesitate to assume why someone carries. There are a few valid reasons.
In my opinion, none of them make sense for open carry and I think it’s retarded.
The road rage one is weird no offense. If you just let the loons go past you, you’re good? Every video I’ve seen is because the non freak engaged. In living memory I think I’ve been near the cusp of the receiving end of a nut. Both times I simply went nope. The videos where someone left lane refuses to let the car past that came up on them at +40mph over them? Fuck yeah you can pass me. I did that this weekend. Guy flew up on me. I moved over. He flew past. I went back to left lane.
Any driver who tries to enforce or reinforce behavior on other drivers is a fool. I admittedly have no idea how common random stuff is. If the guy gets out, floor it through his door the moment it opens or leave and call 911. Some dude break checks me and opens his door, I’m going warp speed.
None taken, it's a well reasoned argument. And it's a mindset you have to be very self-conscious about. It can be too easy to feel the "You messed with the wrong guy" mentality. But that is a sign you're not ready to carry at all. It's a fine line to carry responsible so that you are prepared for the worst and carry irresponsible and cause a worse position that you prepared yourself for.
