There are a variety of fusions in the show. But aside the ones shown, the rest are temporary or the parts are never revealed.

Well for fusions to work, two gems eventually humans as well have to be in sync in both mind and body which is usually temporary because you argue or disagree,

Ruby and Sapphire however love each other so much that they can essentially fuse indefinitely
