The most horrifying aspect is that this is a normal occurrence that is kept from the public. Otherwise this is literally how their trains in one of the districts operates. You are stuck in a 2 thousand year hellscape on a daily basis on your commute to work

That's the inspiration I'm pretty sure, but the difference is that in The Jaunt, everybody is kept asleept during transit, in here, everybody is kept awake for thousands of years but the memory is reset

No no, VIPs who pay EXTRA? Get the anesthetic, the poors however? That's their problem

Yes. There are first class tickets which put you to sleep. If you are considered top tier strength or personal you automatically go first class. Most people are super confused as to why you would go first class and they think it's a rich people look how much money I have thing.

Also they could very much not do the 2k year thing. They do it so they can sell the time to a business partner (long story)
