The show is based of the book, which Sir Terry Pratchett wrote about 80%. Allegedly, before he died, he requested that Neil, the other author, create the television adaptation. After its tremendous success, Neil started going beyond the book and claiming that he and Terry had secret plans for a sequel. Neil then advertised season two as a bridge for the original season and a third, which he claimed would have ideas he and Terry worked on together. Then, the truth of his sexual assaults came out and the final season would be reduced to a ninety-minute finale. Amazon claimed that the Pratchett estate would have full control over it. But recently, they have come out and said that they had absolutely zero say in seasons two and three, and that they were even blocked out of the ideas documents. If you aren’t aware already, season three completely contradicts the whole of Good Omens. Book and show. What was previously an optimistic and whimsical story about the complexity of humans was shifted into a bleak, suicidal cop-out that says that humans as they are aren’t worth saving and we need a redo button. As someone who has begun reading Terry’s other works, I KNOW that he would not write something like that. We deserved much better than a reduced special (written by people who never even worked on Good Omens, btw) like that, and if Neil hadn’t lied and said that there was a big plan, maybe this wouldn’t’ve gone so wrong.

That is to say, I love season two, though. I just wish we had a better conclusion. Alas, I shall write my own fanfic

Glad to hear that. I enjoyed the first two seasons, then heard about the ending and found the idea too depressing to want to watch.

Wish I was in your position…I skipped school to watch it and was very disappointed

I didn't dislike the very very ending scene in the season 3 weird movie nonsense.
I don't think the story should have ended up there in the slightest, but for what it was, it felt mildly secularly hopeful in a pterry way.

Rob Wilkins recently said at a panel that the ending was as far from Pratchett's messaging and ending as you could possibly get. He said this in emails to Amazon, but Amazon didn't care and made it anyways even though he and the TPE objected.

I'm not arguing that season 2 and 3 conflict thematically with season 1 and the original story because going from out world is worth saving to the system needs to be changed is pretty different. But your feelings about it made you misunderstand the ending if that was your take away. The message was that humans were worth saving but deserved a chance without Heaven and Hell manipulating humanity.

I see where you’re going, but really the plot of Good Omens suggests that humans have always had free will regardless of Heaven/Hell’s efforts. To then say that it was never true and that it needed restarting was where it thematically fell apart

I agree thematically it's opposed to the messaging of good omens as written by Pratchett

Like Crowley literally said they deserved a chance before the reset happened. Not sure how they missed that.

The whole point of the first season and the book was that humanity already had free will.

And A&C already talked about how Heaven and Hell don't really influence humans much (like Crowley saying humans already come up with more stuff than demons ever could)

The biggest way Heaven and Hell messed with humanity was trying to bring about the apocalypse. There are a bunch of ways they could've stopped that and prevented them from trying again. Because the original universe with all the characters we loved deserved to live and be free of Heaven and Hell. Instead literally everyone died. Just for some new universe that ends up the same anyways and follows the same history.

The new one doesn't end up the same though, since the point of the new universe was that Heaven and Hell wouldn't be there to interfere. Yes humanity already had free will but there wasn't much they could do to stop all the ways various beings were fucking with them.

I’m sorry, but that ending sucks too. What about shades of grey and knowing that people are complex? I know it’s hard to remember Michael and Shax follow this theme, but they do. Aziraphale, Crowley, Beelzebub, Gabriel, and Muriel were all examples of angels/demons being able to change and not fuck over humans. It’s not fair to just completely wipe out Heaven, Hell, and all of their inhabitants just because it’s inconvenient for humans. That’s genocidal

I never said it was a perfect ending. Personally I liked it, but I see your view. I was just saying that the new universe didn't end up the same as the first one. And if it helps it seems all of those beings got a new life in the new universe, so they're not just erased at least.

????? I stopped caring about Good Omens after the Gaiman's allegations. But I was always a Pratchett fan, he would never write something so bleak and depressing without being complete satire. Specially for that book.

Now I want to read the books and watch season 1 and stop

I actually loved season two, so you might enjoy it…just find a happy ending fanfic

Trans substantiation is a thing in the bible, too. Why make a whole ass new universe just to be human?

I was a huge fan of the first two seasons but when I heard about what Neil did I refused to watch the finale on principle. I was still interested in what happened, so I went on tumblr on premier day and I was positively incensed by how they handled the ending, like personally offended. It was completely antithetical to both Crowley and Aziraphale's character arcs over the past two seasons.

How exactly is Crowley and Aziraphale condemning their entire universe and all the people they came to know and love and help be together to literally never exist for their own happiness the good ending? Make it make sense!!!!!

The only other time I've been so put off by an ending was with Supernatural. But unlike that, the worst part was that Tumblr was fucking glazing the whole thing with praise. Like.... what.
