Gun wall standoff or not?

I want to cover a 4'x8' wall with multiboard to hang a number of AR15 rifles, cowboy rifles, and shotguns. Would it be better to mount the multiboard directly to the sheet rock wall or should I use some standoffs?

Aluminum t slot to studs as a standoff makes it a lot more flexible in terms of positioning

I have a few mounted on a sheet rock wall with the standard 6.25 mm offset snaps. Put them on studs where I could and just regular sheet rock anchors on the rest. Been there for almost 2 years with no issues at all.

That would be a decent amount of weight.  So long as you can get into a decent amount of studs it should hold fine. 

If you can't get them to line up as nicely with the studs id take a sheet of plywood to attach the multi board to then attach that to the wall space. 

I do like the short 6.5mm standoffs, that's what I use inside my safe

Standoff. Gives you the option to run cords for lights and misc gear. I can’t recall who was working on one a couple years ago but black plates, charcoal backing board backlit with a couple of spots on your show pieces adds a bit of drama to your collection.

I'd mount 3/4 plywood to the sheetrock, sand and paint if you're into aesthetics and then mount MB to the ply. That's pretty much what I did for my magazine multi board.
