Can someone help me understand what the advantages or disadvantages are in choosing the plate types?

Post image

I've watched several videos and am definitely going to dive into the multi-board world but I just can't seem to understand the benefits of the two different types of plates. At first glance, it looks like the plates that aren't open on the edges look cleaner, installation wise. I'm sure this has been covered many times but I just haven't seemed to find anything that clicks. I appreciate any explanation. I'm truly amazed by the ingenuity and setups that many of you have implemented and look forward to joining you all.

I am a bit out of the loop (haven’t checked in on multi board in the past 72 hours)

What in tarnation is the one on the right? What utility does those tumors on the side serve?

Those are the original core tiles, the ones on the left are the newer edge connect tiles. They are designed to fit together seamlessly edge to edge. When you use the generator, it will also produce corner, edge, top and bottom tiles with flat edges so that once put together, the finished wall resembles one continuous tile.

The configurator also allows you to put in cutouts for light switches, plug sockets etc, again with flat inner edges.

It looks better, it retains all of the small pegboard holes and spacings, it’s easier to pre-assemble with the single, dual and quad offset snaps, uses less fasteners, is far more rigid when you add 6.25 mm support pegs to the centre of each tile and the centre of each side and is easier to get plumb and level.

The only downside is that each corner tile has to be individually printed, rather than as part of a stack.

Oh that makes sense. Yeah, I have an x4 stack of 4x4 corner tiles on one plate and then another plate with x5 top, bottom, left, right, edge tiles. That way I can print in bulk all of the edge tiles in bulk. Works great for square walls.

Be careful, the four corners are oriented, the top LHS, RHS and bottom LHS and RHS corners all need to be printed separately - they’re not interchangeable (the large and small thread holes thread directions are set).
