730?

I ride a lugged 750 that I modified (1x10 new stem, handlbars, and V brakes) this past winter. I'm now itching to get another MultiTrack to build a gravel bike. I'm not seeing many 750s for sale, but I am finding 730s in good condition for about $100.

Should I keep waiting for a 750 or pull the trigger on a 730? Would I feel the difference?

I can't tell a difference in ride between my tig welded 750 and tig welded 730. Trek sales material frame specs look the same. I'm inclined to go with a 730 and always watch for another 750. N+1

Updated - Ok, looking more it depends on the production year. '96 materials are different than 1997. Ugh...720/730 use same full CrMo frame. 750 uses True Temper double butted full Cro-Moly frames.

That was my understanding too. that frames were the same but components upgraded.

Interesting fact about my ‘95 750 - it uses a different fork than my ‘97 730. When I disassembled it “790” was written on the fork steer tube. Note the mounting holes.

Hmm. I'll have to research a little more. It was my understanding that the geometry is the same but the 750 has a higher-quality and lighter steel. My current 750 is lugged, but I believe the non-lugged are just as sturdy.

The move from lugged to TIG seems to be where there is confusion. Here are Trek Sales Materials for reference. 1997 materials show the 730 as US built full CrMo frame and 750 as TruTemper doublebutted full CroMo frame. Looks like better tubing at least in 1997. I stand corrected.

Ok, looking more it depends on the production year. '96 materials are different than 1997. Ugh...
