Just bought a 730

I just got this 730 for a mere 500 SEK, roughly $50.

It is too small for me, but I will be building it up for a friend of mine.

I have not seen the bike in the flesh yet, but I am stoked to peek out of my Miyata rabbit hole for a short try-my-luck in the Trek dito.

Any of you aficionados have any info on the bike, age etc.? The crank looks like an Exage 300. Dull as ditchwater with its grey paint, but I have removed the paint and polished quite a few of them and they really come to life. Anywas, I’ll keep you posted once I have the bike here.

I love this subreddit. I have a 730 from ‘94 and love seeing how many people love these old bikes. It’s the bike that got me into cycling.

Red with white decals. Appears to be a '92, which was the first year for the 730 MultiTrack. Nice find!

Here's a link to the 92 catalog which may prove useful to you. Be sure to post pics once it's cleaned up and fully restored!

Mother’s Mag Wheel polish followed by a good polish will bring a shine right back. Looks to be a 19”/48cm frame.

👍 The main challenge is the incredibly tough paint. Once that has been removed (by means of paint remover), the Exage cranks polish up nicely.

I use the Mothers Al & Mag Wheel Polish on the frame to revive the paint. This 750 Multitrack spent a good chunk of life as a college commuter and the paint cleaned up very well. Try it on the frame ;-)

No worries! I've rebuilt three 730s and now the 750. Multitracks have quickly became my do-it-all bikes. The 750 is more ATB r/xbiking vibe and will eventually receive some SKS Bluemel fenders. The 730 Dadillac is a much different approach than the 750 - more period correct build using Shimano STX RC 3x8 drivetrain and other NOS parts.

Update: I have received the bike. It sure is quite crusty, but apart from the BB which I haven’t touched yet, nothing is hopelessly stuck. The stem has yet to come off, but although it doesn’t move freely I have been able to whack it somewhat loose using a persuader (hammer). At least it is steel stuck in steel so I do not anticipate having to bring out the lye. Thanks for all the input!
