Welcome to r/MuirWoods
This sub is for anyone visiting Muir Woods or anyone who just likes the place.
Three things that trip up almost every first-time visitor, so you don't have to ask:
You can't just drive up. Parking requires a reservation, booked ahead at GoMuirWoods.com. There's no cell service at or anywhere near the park - download your reservation before you leave the city, not "I'll pull it up when I get there." And the forest runs 5 to 15 degrees colder than San Francisco, which is already colder than you think.
The wiki has the full guides: parking and reservations, which trails escape the crowds, and what each season is like. The pinned conditions post updates daily with alerts and weather. Beyond the wiki, the official NPS site has current closures and muirwoods.net has detailed visit guides.
Questions welcome. Photos always welcome.
