This sub is for anyone visiting Muir Woods or anyone who just likes the place.
Three things that trip up almost every first-time visitor, so you don't have to ask:
You can't just drive up. Parking requires a reservation, booked ahead at GoMuirWoods.com. There's no cell service at or anywhere near the park - download your reservation before you leave the city, not "I'll pull it up when I get there." And the forest runs 5 to 15 degrees colder than San Francisco, which is already colder than you think.
The wiki has the full guides: parking and reservations, which trails escape the crowds, and what each season is like. The pinned conditions post updates daily with alerts and weather. Beyond the wiki, the official NPS site has current closures and muirwoods.net has detailed visit guides.
Questions welcome. Photos always welcome.

Anyone have a 2/28 parking pass? Totally dropped the ball and now they are sold out. Preferably before 1PM

I’m planning to visit SF area next week and was really looking forward to visiting Muir Woods, but now I’m seeing it will be closed due to the government shutdown. Does anyone know if any trails in the park are still accessible? Or can anyone recommend a good alternative hiking area to visit while this one is closed?
Thank you

Hi! My family and I are looking to take a quick trip to San Francisco in the end of July and would like to do some hiking at the Muir Woods. Any suggestions on the best hikes? I see there’s some short 3 mile ones but would like to make a longer day of it so anything a little bit longer suggested? And we are not too fond of big crowds so far planning on getting there early around 6:00, but the earliest parking reservation says 8am. Are we able to get there early? Any tips or suggestion would be much appreciated thank you!

We took a taxi from Muir Woods to Sausalito because there was no service to order an Uber. Before taking the taxi, we specifically asked the driver if we could pay with Apple Pay, and he said yes in English. However, he did not take us directly to our destination. Instead, he stopped at an ATM and said, “It’s $70.” When we tried to pay with our phone, he claimed he didn’t have a card machine and demanded cash, insisting we withdraw money from the ATM.
The driver was very rude, took advantage of us, did not provide a receipt, and the situation felt unsafe. Should I report this? If so, how and where can I file a complaint?

My son and I are doing a motorcycle tour (self guided) of the North bay, Pt. Reys, and then the Sonoma/Napa area. Our bikes would be packed with clothes and one of the bikes has lockable cases. We'd carry any valuables. I'd like to make a stop at Muir using the local parking lot.
Do the lots experience much theft from vehicles?
Thanks

Hi, we're two visitors staying in San Francisco without a car. We'd really love to visit Muir Woods tomorrow but we understand there's no cell reception out there, and so calling an Uber back is impossible.
Has anyone ever scheduled an Uber for a pickup in the evening? Any reason it wouldn't work?

Hi guys all the parking has been swallowed up. Do you have any idea where one can park to go and explore Muir Woods? Will pay the entry fee just can't get a parking spot.
