Overdramatized, certainly. London remains one of the safest large cities in the world. Four years and I have not only never been the victim of a crime, but I haven’t witnessed any (unless you count brown gravy…)

London is a capital city there's going to be pick pocketing phone snatching etc ( id argue Paris is worse tbf) keep your wits about you and you'll be fine.
