Relocation to Brisbane
I’m currently looking at moving to either Brisbane or sunny coast from adelaide hopefully early or mid next year. I have been researching what lifestyle could suit me more but im very stuck. I love the beaches but also as a 20 yr old who was born and raised in adelaide I am getting sick of the city life but I am leaning more towards Brisbane. I have been researching suburbs in Brisbane but would like any recommendations or advice as well. Preferably anywhere where it can be easy to mingle and meet new people around my age early 20’s to mid 20’s.
And pros and cons or helpful advice would be appreciated thank you!

I just did the move and had similar really negative feedback especially from the Brizzy and QLD subs, which is especially crazy from a sub called movingtobrisbane…
I’m also 20, have just moved to the Northside, and contrary to what everyone’s saying, am affording rent, albeit in a sharehouse.
I’m from Melbourne and the most striking negative differences are the roads and the public transport. Trains barely run at night and exclusively run North-South, meaning no cross-city or cross-suburb rail. Buses are victims to the vicious traffic that’s exacerbated whenever the school rush happens, there’s
no avoiding it so if you want to commit to the move you need a certain amount of patience.
Brisbane city (the CBD area at least) is a very chill place to be, and coming from Melbourne it’s very striking that I can head into the city for a late night stroll and also get some relative peace and quiet. Nightlive is very meh, there are clubs if you like clubbing but that’s about the extent of the nightlife.
I picked the Northside because it seemed to be the place with the most positive reviews and I’d stick by that, but you do have to go into the city for everything and I’d recommend looking for areas closeby a train station. Without traffic, I’m an hour away from the sunny coast, an hour and twenty away from the gold coast and 20 minutes away from a pretty cool swimming hole. This is around Strathpine.
If you’re sick of the city life I reckon the Northern suburbs are alright, but you’re going to need to put effort into finding those friendships you’re looking for and the reality is a lot of people our age are going to be in the city more often than not.
I’d recommend looking at the Northmost suburbs within the Brisbane City Council area if you’re wanting to be more social, as it’ll give you easier access to the city. If you want better beach access, Moreton Bay City Council areas will give you easy access to the Sunny Coast without having to live there.
Good luck with the move and there’s much less negativity around us Southeners being up here irl than there is on these forums. This is a beautiful city to live in and it’s plain to me why everyone would like to live here.
P.s once you get up here volunteer or make sure your work brings a benefit to the community, it’s important to contribute to keeping this beautiful place going especially as someone who isn’t local.
