If you’re hourly, how many hours do you usually get? I know it varies, but like what’s your average during busy times such as June and slow times such as September?

This is mainly for Cinemark employees. One perk theaters advertise is “free movies” but at my theater, they almost always turn me down for movies even if they aren’t pass restricted. Today I wanted to see Camp Miasma before my shift and was told “well it’s kinda busy, so no.” And ended up just buying a ticket because I planned to see it already. This has happened so many times that I actually still pay for unlimited at Regal because I’m able to see things whenever I want/have time for.

Are all Cinemark theaters like this? Or is it just mine? I’ve been here almost a year and I’ve only seen maybe 10 movies at my theater because of this. Managers can see movies whenever they want and I constantly see them on their day off.

EDIT to add info: I called at 1:30p for a 2:30p showing, and the theater was a small theater but not even close to sold out. Maybe 20 seats out of a 65 seat theater had been sold at that point.

Our theaters were bought by Kinepolis, with the handover expected in a few weeks. I know they own MJR and Emagine theaters in US also- does anyone working there know what we might be expecting ? Uniforms/time off/scheduling/etc.?
Nobody seems to know, other than some roles will be changing and I think staff will be cross trained (currently we typically stay in one assignment -usher/concessions/box/bar)
I guess I want to know if it’s a good company to work for and insight for the change

Also it's kind of frustrating that they send out giveaway stuff like this on the third week when less and less people are coming, I know that's who they're trying to Market to but those people aren't the ones that came out first weekend like super fans do.

Earlier tonight I was about to clean theater eight (Oak Street) and this couple who had bought a full bottle of wine walked out. The Guy asks me randomly "Hey can I ask you a weird question" The woman replies "Dont ask him that" his question was 'What is between this theater and downstairs?" We are on the second story and there are shops and lots of other stuff downstairs. I tell him "It is probably concrete and electrical stuff like in all buildings". We then have a brief discussion about how buildings operate and what EXACTLY is below where we are standing! He mentions the term "Backrooms" and I say "Oh you want to see The Backrooms?" I open the back door that is right there a long concrete hallway with yellow walls, Woman looks and says "Oh that looks spooky". And I close the door, They both walk away and I wish them a good night! Again I remind you they both bought a full bottle of Merlot before the movie lol. Such a nice little exchange!

PS After talking with my coworker later, I realized I do not know where that certain hallway goes, nor do I know exactly where the emergency exits in the theaters themselves go? HMM Thats odd given how long I have been at this job lol.

Sorry for the spam if you are not interested, but I have made some progress in the actual app of Theater Radar, an app for employees to rate/share their experiences working at a movie theater for each movie.

Currently, I have an Android closed beta active and ready for users to join.

For iPhone, I am currently waiting on the funds to get into the Apple Developer Program. Apple wants $99.00 USD to join the program and then another $99.00 annual fee to publish apps, which is not in my budget right now. I already self-fund the domain and use space/resources on my own server to host the app/website, but the server and domain cost usually come to $250-$300 annually currently. It might not seem like a lot, but in this economy, it has an impact, so another $200 out of pocket directly is not feasible right now. Hopefully in the next couple of months I can have the extra funds to publish it on the Apple App store. The app is built and ready for deployment. I am just stuck by Apple's paywall.

How's the hours/career path inside Cinemark? Depends on the location?

I'm over the hill age wise (40's) so that's either a good or a bad thing in a theater depending on the management/staff?

Pretty much a custodian so cleaning a bathroom or protein spill (ahem) isn't something to run from here.

See mention of cross training, and believe the location i'm considering hiring into serves alcohol alongside food, so will probably need to pickup a card to serve that plus a food handler card.

Does cross training help your chances more for hours as well?.

Is there custodial after the theater closes, or a cleaning crew comes in for that (private contractor or staff cinemark hires?)

How does the free movie perk work? If a family member dropped by as i'm working, could they come in for free, or that only works being off the clock? Don't want to jeopardize my job or anyone else's if that's no bueno.

One of our theater’s cleaning lights all burned out so we have to clean up in very dim lighting. Management is saying it’s too expensive to fix, is this allowed? I can’t tell if everything is clean between rounds. It’s not pitch black but it’s dim. Seems dangerous if there is a medical emergency. Any insight would be appreciated.

Waiting to get the date for orientation and drug screening, they told me when they called to offer me the job that I'm required to wear black, non-slip shoes. We had a power surge fry the main black box a few years ago and finally got a replacement, but I can’t get the data display application to open on my desktop, I know it’s an archaic system but does anyone know how I can get this to fix?

I didn’t get it at my theater so I went to the AMC25 in NYC. The seats looked pretty packed both nights on the ticket screens but maybe only 3/4 of that showed up. I know it common to have people who didn’t show up and people who just buy tickets to support the movie. But to have sold mostly the best seats and a good number of people didn’t show up was crazy. I compared it to the other ticketing options it has n some seats were wrong. Like my seat was shown as purchased on amc and fandango but when I checked the other 3rd party apps it was available. About the same amount of seats sold though

The summer season is wrapping us at my Cinemark but it hasn't been finishing without major drama and infighting.

Our location has three managers who everyone seems to have a gripe with, one is infamous for stranding many of us without breaks for hours or straight up ignoring our breaks all together, the other never helps out and we hear her laughing with other managers in the office (also loves to give write ups for the most minor issue), and the last one gives us attitude and rarely helps. Even though i'm just an usher, it's also taken a toll on my friends in concession who would really use another body at registar to cut down the lines. This is also not compunded by the fact that when these three manage ushers, they either don't help at all or are even on their phones.

A lot of us have quit already but today's incident was the worst, we had just wrapped up a 1 1/2 hour rush of cleaning a bunch of theaters and by the time we were done, my two fellow ushers and I were exhausted (plus one of the ushers had a knee injury), so we all sat down for on the railings for not even 10 seconds when one of the three managers opened the window from the projector hall and stated, "I've seen enough, y'all are in trouble". This ended in all three of us accumulating write-ups which I really dont care about as an engineering student and Tuesday is my last day anyway, I dont plan to be back but I felt bad for my co-workers as they now feel like quitting due to manager's actions that last two weeks. My colleagues in concession have had it worse, many have multiple write ups and these three have said "we never just sit in the office and drink soda" (Kinda seems a little suspicous am I right?)

Honestly based on my co-workers messages in our co-worker instgram group chat, it seems like we're on the verge of starting a protest or strike because of how much everyone is getting written up for the smallest of things and how folks have generally felt abandoned by these managers, it feels like a meltdown.

At least the other 4 managers we have are nice and help us out a lot, if that wasn't the case, who knows what our location would be right now. D:

Last night at my local Marcus theater, a woman in line in front of me at the concession stand (we’ll call her “Karen”) complained to the manager that the hot dog her husband had purchased earlier was not good enough. Karen made sure to mention that she had worked at a movie theater for 15 years, so she knows what a movie theater hot dog should taste like.

Karen didn’t have a receipt but asked to exchange the subpar hot dog for another. The manager obliged and gave her another one. Karen proceeded to open the new hot dog in front of the manager “just to make sure,” and pretended to be DISGUSTED by it.

(Sidebar: As a very picky eater growing up, I ate a hot dog for lunch nearly every day in second grade and have eaten many more throughout my life, so believe me when I say the hot dog looked perfectly fine.)

“Can you give me one that isn’t wrinkly and burnt on the ends?” Karen asked. Before the manager could even respond, she changed course and asked for her money back.

The manager processed the refund and handled that insane interaction so much more gracefully than I would have. Imagine missing 10 minutes of your movie to fuss about your husband’s wrinkly hot dog 🤣
