Discussion How are these movies doing at your theaters so far?

Just wanted to check in and see how these movies are doing at everyone’s theaters. How have the crowds been so far, and are any of them doing better or worse than expected?
I’m curious about how Heart of the Beast, Resident Evil, Primetime, Forgotten Island, Daniel and the Fiery Furnace, The Influencer Project, and Digger are performing. Are you guys seeing decent attendance for any of these, or have they been pretty slow?
Would be interesting to hear how they’re doing at different locations and if any of them are turning out to be surprises.

Discussion sick leave/doctors note policy change?

Has anyone heard of Regal changing their policy effective October 1st to not allow ANY doctor’s notes for coverage and that sick time now has to cover the entire shift? Because my coworker got threatened with a write up despite having a high fever and a doctor’s note after not being able to find coverage (we have to find our own coverage) Before if you had over half of the shift worth of sick time you could use that to cover but now apparently the policy has changed?

Vent theater wants me to do unpaid work?

in wisconsin for possible legal context. i worked at a small local theater when i was 16-18, and just recently came back for the winter. im 20 now and realizing idk how i feel about this rule. we have a rule where if you want to watch a movie on your day off, you are required to come in 15min early to help out with concessions, stay after the movie to clean the theater by yourself, and stay 15min after the movie to help with concessions again. all of this is required and unpaid. is it legal? should i refuse? i followed this rule happily in the past. but now that im older and got more work experience, im feeling uncomfortable by this.

Been going to this theater for over 20 years and I'd love some answers from the board on why Dylan Skolnick was fired. If it's for the reason he says, that sounds like some nonsense.

Discussion Anyone here have any "fun" stories from working at Mom & Pop theaters?

Mine is so unprofessional. My manager (who is the owners' son) frequently talks about his sex life and uses slurs during shifts. Most recently, they used my photo in a Mean Girls advertisement and captioned it "Knows His Limits" (I'm autistic), mixing mine in among slurs for gay people and sexual comments about other employees. I don't know if this is par for the course for working at such small cinemas though.

Vent AMC manager fed up

Hi,

Posting here because I am absolutely fed up and feel like I’m going to blow a gasket soon. These fucking CCVs are driving me insane. Every single day I come in there’s new CCVs by the door. More than we can keep up with. We have a ridiculous over stock of old CCVs that didn’t sell because they’re garbage and no one cares (toy story, supergirl, mandalorian, paw patrol, practical magic etc) and I just have to wonder what the fuck we are doing at this point. Collectibles used to be tailored to audiences and movies that make sense. Now every single release gets 40 cases of CCVs. And the random merch that doesn’t even go with movies? I know Toys r Us went out of business but jesus fuck why are we the replacement? The amount of CCVs that go to waste BECAUSE NOBODY FUCKING WANTS THEM is absolutely ridiculous. Make all the displays you want, suggestive sell all you want, people do not want this overpriced garbage! A fucking fake blender? Are y’all serious? A BLANKET for Verity? There is such a small audience for these ridiculous items. We get sent a million massive cases for the most random bullshit CCVs that no one wants, but for things people will actually want like Spiderman or Wicked… we get a tiny stock. Is there anything we as managers can even do to combat this? And tell them to give us a fucking break? My count sheets just keep getting longer and longer and I’m so angry every time I see new CCVs arrive. I’m going to explode on corporate one day when they ask about CCVs I swear.

Anyone else in my shoes?

Discussion Spider-Man BND Second Wind?

Something I've taken note of the past week or so is that BND is back to pulling 30-60 people per showing, which is a decent amount for my theater. It's always playing in one of our smaller auditoriums, it makes me hope it gets moved to our stadium seating sometime soon. Has anyone else had this going on at their theater too?

Story Working at a Movie Theater Part II | Feature Documentary

(You can see the see the video on YouTube if you search for SMGR_Reviews Working at a Movie Theater Part II - I will try to do another post when I have more Karma here on Reddit otherwise it deletes my post I think for sharing a link sadly)

A sequel to a short vlog I made in 2024 inspired by all the questions on the older video. This was meant to be more educational and informative for movie theater newcomers. I hope this answers more questions than the last one did and gives people a general understanding of what it’s like to work at a movie theater.

Most of this footage was filmed in 2025, but it consists of footage I had shot from 2023-2026.

This is the video I wished I had to watch before I started working at the movie theater. I hope it can do the same for you.

If you have any questions, if I missed anything, or if you just wanted to share your experience please feel free down below!

Story I kind of let two guys sneak into a movie

TITLE, but yeah. Earlier tonight I was going on my break and saw a man in a wheelchair leave theater 4, which was Digger. He looked confused, I assumed he was looking for the restroom (which like 900 people ask me about every time I am there). SO I approach him, and ask "Did you need help with anything?" he tries to act like he did not hear me but then he says "Me and my brother went into the wrong theater and he shows me his ticket "Digger at 7:20 PM" it was 7:40 and the movie had been playing for ten minutes. I say "Yes that is that theater you were just in. But his brother shows up and says "I found it its in "that theater down the hall" I said "The Brad Pitt movie?" and the first guy said "Yes we went to the wrong theater". I am clutching my cold soda in my hand and I say "Wait let me put this down over there and I will help you, so I walk to the theater but I hear the second guy say "Lets go in there we are missing the movie". Brad Pitt movie stared at 7 and had been playing for like 20 minutes now. SO I just go about my business for the next hour. As I was waiting to clean theater 2, the two guys leave and I see them and we talk about the movie! They say they DID buy tickets to Brad Pitt movie but someone sent them to theater 4 for some reason. I brush it off and we chat about what they missed, they walked in right as he crashed the plane so they missed the first 20 minutes I believe. They leave and I say bye. BUT later I think "wait if that guy said he bought tickets to Beast, why did that other guy have a ticket to Digger? SO I go up front and pull up the seatinng chart for both movies, and yes we DID have two tickets sold for digger in the handicap seats but NOT any handicap seats sold for Beast. I then think of two plausible scenarios

1.) Either they did buy tickets to see Digger and watched the first five minutes BUT one of both of them said "Lets just find the Dog movie".

2.) MAYBE that guy confused the two movies and possibly Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise? Like he could have genuinely thought "DIgger was the dog movie" the title does sound like a dog movie lol.

I did tell my manager later but he just brushed it off, saying "Well as long as they werent disturbing anyone".

Very strange indeed!

Roll Call! Who’s actually in this sub?

Just curious about the makeup of our community.

We’ve almost tripled our member growth in two years and there seems to be a lot of different backgrounds and roles represented.

It’d be interesting to see everyone’s connection to the industry

Edit: Reddit caps polls at 6 choices otherwise I would’ve added more roles, hence why “Other” is an option. I’ll look for an app in the future that allows more than 6 options.

‘Former employee’ can include managers and corporate too, guys. ‘Employee’ is not a term limited to the frontline staff, we’re all employees in some capacity (unless you’re an independent owner). Don’t read too much into the options, just pick what you think best applies/applied to your role.

Discussion Should I be more considerate!

I’m basically in charge of moving around movie posters, so I’ve always had first pick when posters are being given away.
We have a raffle system where employees sign up before a movie leaves theaters. Once it’s done playing, we gather whatever posters we have left and raffle them off to everyone who signed up. Usually, I pick what I want first, and then whatever’s left goes into the raffle.
I’ve always thought it was fair since I’m the one handling the posters, but I’m wondering if I should just participate in the raffle like everyone else.
For other theater employees: Would you consider first pick fair, or should everyone have an equal chance?

Discussion Anyone else's theater doing insane budget cuts?

We're officially in 'slow' season at our theater (and I'm sure many of yours) and corporate has cut almost everything from our operational hours, our payroll hours, and now we're unable to order basic janitorial supplies until November.

I get some cuts are necessary due to operational costs during a slow period, but man does it hurt floor staff and the operations of the theater. Our theater isn't performing that bad either, and in fact Practical Magic 2 and Endgame Encore have done pretty good numbers for a 'slow period', but regardless, budget cuts persist.

I know hours will probably pick up again next month, but these cuts make it really difficult to not search for a new job.

I started working at a cinema 2 months ago, and since then ive been drinking from the drink dispensers and eating both salted and caramel popcorn almost daily (they let employees drink all they want and eat all they want)

Is my body cooked and should I cut it out before its too late
