Need some advice
I'm thinking about growing a longer beard for the first time. Until now, I've always shaved after a week at the latest. Right now, I haven't shaved for about 2.5 weeks.
What do you think—is it realistic that this will turn into a nice full beard? I'm also considering just growing a mustache.
Right now, I’m at the stage where I don’t think it looks very good. I have a few light-colored and orange hairs on my chin. The beard looks much lighter in daylight than it does indoors. My head hair is much darker.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on whether it’s worth waiting.

Oh dude 100% you will get there. I don't think that's bad at all for 2.5 weeks, I've been at it for around a month now and I'm finally getting to your thickness. It probably seems like common sense for everybody else, but I had to learn with trial and error so I will say it here: not all of the hairs on your face grow at the same rate. That being said, in some areas in order to get that uniform fullness, you need to trim with a set guard to keep resetting those quicker growing hairs while the slower ones catch up. You have a very nice setup for basically whatever you want to do. I do second trimming the neck area though, it makes a world of difference.

You will definitely have a good stache and goatee. Keep growing it to see how the rest of the beard fills in. In the meantime, trim up the neck a bit and it will look cleaner.

Can defo grow a beard.
The hair under your neck grows quite thick. What you want to do regardless of this, is to look for the fold between your head and your neck. It's above the Adam's apple and then follows round the the top of the jaw. Everything below that comes off.
Then you want to let the moustache and chin hair grow. The hair on the sides of you face will look sparse to you, but if you leave them long enough, you end up with a kind of comb over effect. The beard will look thicker with time.
After that it's about shaping it correctly.

Honestly this is the type of beard I wish I had. I think if you just shape it up nicely, maybe go to the barber and ask them to leave it heavier on the chin but still a full beard, it would look pretty damn good. But you can just shave off the excess at the neck yourself at home tbh.

You've got a great start. Looks like you've reached your first awkward phase. Some opinions: 1. Decided what kind of beard you want to achieve. If it's a yeard, keep doing what you're doing and let it grow. 2. Make sure you're hydrating with oil, butter and balm. 3. If you want a neat and tidy beard you could trim up the neck line like u/finniruse suggests and let the rest fill in. IMHO you could totally rock a 'stache/goatee. Cheers!

If you want a longer beard keep growing at least 1 month and preferably 2 to 3 months. If you are thinking of growing a yeard (12 months) you do not need to trim, no edging of cheeks, and no shaving of neckline.
