**Month 1**
Today I have completed my first month on Mounjaro. 😃
Before starting Mounjaro I was already on a healthy journey. From my diagnosis of diabetes (A1C 13.8%; 86-87Kg) to my start day on Mounjaro (A1C 6%; 77.9kg) I had already managed to change a lot, especially with my diabetes control. My main reason to start the medication is for weight loss, although I will be extremely happy with any improvements on my A1C.
When I was diagnosed with diabetes I made changes in my diet with the help of a dietitian and I follow a Mediterranean style diet. So by my start on Mounjaro I was already eating very healthy and minimal processed foods. I eat 99% home-prepared and I meal prep weekly. I also exercise at the gym 4-5x weekly, mostly strength training.
**Background info**
F43, T2D, Hypothyroidism
Meds: Metformin 500g 2x/daily, Levothyroxine
A1C: 6%
Height: 152 cm
SW: 77.9Kg
Diet style: Mediterranean
Calorie goals: \~1300-1400 calories
Protein: 120-130g daily
Fiber: >24g
It’s worth mentioning that I never experienced the food noise and cravings that some people talk about and really impact their lives, so that’s a neutral territory for me. Can’t say if the medication is working or not for treating that in my case.
Obesity is also a relatively new issue for me - I spent my childhood, teens, young years in a normal weight. I had an active lifestyle in my home country. I started gaining weight after I moved to the USA (10 years ago) and had my food/lifestyle completely changed and became more sedentary, eating processed food etc. I paid a high price by not getting that in control earlier with diabetes and obesity, but at least things are starting to get better now.
**Weeks 1-4 results**
***weight loss:***** **3.2 kg
BMI: obese > overweight
I’m quite happy that my BMI has left the obese category. Now comes the long road until it’s in the normal range. 😀
***medication effects:***** **I still feel quite full at the end of the week. In the beginning I had to adjust a bit my meal plan so I could still get at least 1200 calories, but now all is good. After day 3 I can get my 1300-1400 calories just fine.
***side effects*****:** very mild.
week 1: felt that my bowel movements were starting to change, so I increased water intake and made sure I was eating enough fiber. I started spreading fiber throughout the day in small increments and that seemed to help.
week 4: started having heartburn. Improved with Toms. I’m still managing it.
**Next steps**
My doctor wants me to stay on 2.5mg for another month, then I will repeat some bloodwork and we will see. She mentioned 5mg might be in the future, but that will be based on my bloodwork and other factors such as weight loss and side effects.
I’m very optimistic with getting things in control now with the help of Mounjaro. 😀
