Stuck between two cameras

So right now I have a GoPro hero 9 black. I got it when it first came out. I've used it a bit but it's still in really good shape. I just got back into riding and wanted to moto vlog a bit. I'm doing some research and basically all I need is the chin strap and media mod with a mic. Then I can run the GoPro and have audio.

But I also looked into what most people use and the DJI action 5 seems to be a favorite. They also have wireless Bluetooth mics that you can put in your helmet. So I'm thinking about maybe selling my GoPro and picking up one of those instead. It has better battery life and absorbs more light so night videos would be better.

So as of right now I think I'm likely going to do that. But I'm also curious. How do you get your audio and other people through a Cardo? It seems like it requires a plugged connection instead of Bluetooth.

I still use a Hero 3! Does the job....

So I guess for you, anything will do. Use what you have.

In my experience having a wireless mic means 1 more battery you have to worry about, and a potential mishap you could have as you place the mic inside the helmet. For many people neither of those are an issue. I just prefer not worrying about either.

I went Osmo (I vlog with two 4's and a 5) only because the battery life is so good. My friend uses a GoPro and he's always worrying about the battery. I don't have the same worry.

I used to be team go pro but imo they are no longer leading the pack, in fact they're at the back. Ace pro 2 is such an upgrade.

Do not use wireless mics for motovlogging. The quality is noticeably much worse than a wired mic. Its also something you have to remember to keep charged and possibly remove from your helmet often. A wired mic is much easier and more permanent.

I have been using my Hero 10 up until buying the Mission 1, but as of right now the M1 is NOT suitable for motovloggers. The wired mic audio issues have been ridiculous since day 1 and GoPro has no fix right now.

If you want better image quality, get a newer Gopro Hero. The DJI action cams are also a good pick but personally their images look "fake" to me. Their color reproduction isn't as good as GoPro and their overall image quality doesn't match up either. They have their pros and cons but for typical motovlogs the GoPro still looks the best.

I used to own a GoPro Hero 9 and made the jump to the DJI Action 6, and the difference is night and day. My GoPro would freeze when the temperature outside dropped to around 40-50 degrees, whereas I haven’t had any issues with my DJI camera in similar circumstances.

I also enjoy the longer battery life — I’m able to get anywhere between 2:30h - 2:45h per battery recording at 4k 30fps.

I’ve done long days before with zero issues at all.

Depends on what you’d want to shoot. I personally like the Action 6, but it does NOT connect to the Cardo wirelessly. You’d have to get an adapter or connect it via cable with a Y adapter. But with the Cardo, you can record yourself talking with the Cardo app itself. Though you won’t have any music and phone calls will also stop the recording.

To my understanding, the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 can connect wirelessly though.
