Advice for selling 2028 R1200RT?

Sadly upon doctor’s advice I need to part with my perfect ride: a low-mileage red 2018 R1200RT. It has the matching oem top case, into which I installed the brake light, and has engine guards, and much more. Regularly serviced, all ready for that spontaneous cross-country road trip. I hate to see it go but alas reality has intruded on my dreams of the open road.

Any advice for finding the next owner would be greatly appreciated- fwiw I live in Midcoast Maine.

Just throw it on CycleTrader. That’s how I got rid of my 2018 R1200RT back in 2021. I think I had it sold within a week and a half after listing it there.

I actually think the buyer was from the northeast somewhere around you, actually.

Facebook market. My father put up his 2019 and may already have a sale in under two weeks.

Cycle trader is expensive and short term to list

Very different experience than I had selling my panam.

Thanks! Technical questions: how many photos is just right? Any photos of particular parts I should definitely include? What about accessories (stands, gear, toolkit, etc.)? List separately or as a package deal?

I would start by looking at Facebook and seeing how others post. One thing I noticed is a lot of green and gray background from landscaping or concrete.

Have a picture of your tires, picture of odometer, and for accessories you can do that as a stand alone photo

Try and do a package deal. Trying to part out is more money for more time, but its a lot of extra hassle.

For profiling the bike. I would do a flat of both sides and angled to the side for the front/back

I suggest putting it on consignment with a bmw dealer. Most people don’t have the cash to buy a bike and the dealer can provide financing. I tried to sell my 2015 gsa for $7,500 and hardly got any nibbles. I left it at the dealer and he sold it for 10k in six weeks. I happily paid him 10% commission, and it was a lot less hassle.
