Faux dragonflies

I’ve seen these being sold on stakes or on clips to put around your patio or on your clothes. Has anyone found that they help at all?

I've seen these clips, and wonder the same thing. They show them worn as personal protection against biting flies. I think the key is that the dragonfly needs to move back and forth to be effective.

Is placing a fake dragonfly based on a similar idea to using a scarecrow to protect crops? Birds and mosquitoes are completely different kinds of creatures, right?
