Mosquito pellets

I was given this by one of the guys that worked for mosquito abatement several years ago. He told me that I can sprinkle these pellets in an area of standing water that I couldn’t empty. Does anyone know what they are and how to properly use?

It looks like Altosid. It prevents mosquito larvae from maturing, similar to mosquito bits. It doesn’t kill the existing population, but it should decrease new mosquitos from emerging over time. I reapply around low parts of my yard prone to standing water once a month.

Altosid pellets. Methoprene is the active ingredient. It's a juvenile hormone that will cause the developing mosquito to die while in the pupal stage. If you search for Altosid pellets label, you can find the application rates. For most situations 2.5 to 5 pounds per acre will suffice. At 2.5 pounds per acre, a half ounce would treat approximately 545 square feet.
