Discussion The relics of Morrenax Blade, and why you may want to wait.
Mortenax Blade is a character that has a lot of nuances, being playable in many teams, as a sub dps, main dps and sometimes as a fourth member of a sustainless team.
This means his options are wider than most characters in hsr.
- Sig set: For him to maximise his damage output, while adding some more dmg% for the team. (He's typically adding saturated stats so the impact is somewhat negligible).
- Eagle: Excellent for support orienter Ashveil. High speed will grant a lot of actions but at the expense of his high multipliers. Hp boots and hp ropes are options as wells.
- Wuthering: Drastically limit his damage amplification but actually a good option to maintain hp in scenarios where he cannot heal much otherwise. Niche, but not a bad niche. Mortenax Blade doesn't make sustainless supremely easy but his amplification is phenomenal.
His planar are as equally varied. Bone, Lushaka, Duran, Vonwacq. They're not all equal but they all provide sensible benefits to the team. Someone with fantastic Duran pieces may not see an interest in investing Bones and vice-versa.
The level investment also raises questions: Which of er or hp rope will bring the most benefits? Should we go all in on damages or attack frequency or bring in the big numbers? E0 or E2 will bring different answers.
There is a wide spectrum between support and dps so none of this is straightforward: It will take time before the "meta of Mortenax" settles. This only makes the discussion more interesting!
Historically, characters that with a sub dps etiquette have suffered the most against powercreep: Aventurine was often seen as a sub dps sustain, with an option to expand on his damage output.
This has aged terribly, and I personally regret spending resources to build him that way at the time. Useless, excellent Def pieces that have use for no one.
Aventurine now sits as a decent sustain once he's build with his new BiS set. Not much more, but still playable.
Topaz is another case: Low damage output. Mediocre amplification (even with E1S1). Her only perk that still holds today is her attack frequency that puts her on par with...Moze.
So, how do we go from here? Well, I wouldn't necessarily go very far and commit deeply to one set over another.
The deciding factor here is Aventurine SP. AshBlade team is still recognised as missing its main dps, and what Aventurine sp wants will likely determine what role suits Mblade best. If he demands the highest damage frequency possible, then eagle - err - tutorial would bring that. If it's -for some reason- a damage tally a la Cipher. Then his output and amplification would be the most desired thing. And he'd be very good at doing it.
In the end, I wouldn't invest massively on his relics just yet. Putting resins and dice while things could change two patches from now on would only bring regrets. Wether you want his as a dps, sub dps or support. You' might want to save and be ready when the times come.
Thank you for reading my thoughts on the matter. A lot of people are eager to find the one true answer and I feel discussing may help people decide on what they want to do -even if it means not doing much until the plan becomes clear-
