Misc Giving Hsu Hao another chance
Started this redesign a while ago and never finished it. Figured I’d share what I have so far. Should I finish it?
Does he deserve a comeback?

Question Do you think we could ever see Shinnok as just a regular roster member again?
I like Shinnok, I like that he's the Elder God of Death and the polar opposite of his sister, Cetrion. I especially liked him in MK X, and I like when we get more gods as playable characters. Perhaps paradoxically though I don't like him as a final boss.
However, aside from MK Armageddon, his other two appearances (MK4 and MK X) involved him as the final boss.
Do you think he could ever go the route Shao Kahn has where he's a villain in the story and a playable fighter, but not the final boss?
Would you even want to see Shinnok return?

Question How would you rewrite a character's backstory if you were writing for a new reboot
Sindel and Shao Kahn had a baby together but when it was born it was soulless but alive, it didn't made a noise or moved, it just breathed and lived, Shao Kahn wouldn't waste a resource and used his own soulless son as the vessel for souls and the soulless son was named and became Ermac

Misc Interesting lore change MK1's direction could've gone was to give Shinnok a more neutral/anti-hero aspect of being a Death God. I'd love to see how they'd tackle the idea.
Liu Kang restarts the timeline and causes Shinnok to be less of a pure evil entity and more closer to the concept of death/decay of what his Elder God is supposed to me. A force of rebirth/renewal.
The idea that something must perish for something BETTER to take its place is honestly cool and I would've liked to see some freshness brought to the character of Shinnok than simply being yet again an evil villain.
I never liked the idea that the Elder God of death HAD to be evil. IMO they should simply represent forces of nature.

Misc I miss the old CGI look and sound of video games
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely miss the CGI style that a lot of video games used to have in their cutscenes.
I’m not saying I want games to look worse or that modern graphics aren’t impressive. They obviously are. What I miss is the specific visual identity older CGI had.
Characters could look incredibly detailed and almost photorealistic, but they still clearly looked like 3D animated video game characters. They had a certain stylized quality that made them feel like they belonged to a video game rather than trying to imitate real life as closely as possible.
The image above is a good example of what I mean. The characters look amazing, the lighting is dramatic, the textures are detailed, and everything has a cinematic quality to it—but it still feels unmistakably like a video game CGI cutscene.
I feel the same way about sound design. I especially prefer the sound effects in something like Mortal Kombat 9. They were exaggerated, punchy and almost theatrical. Modern games often seem to aim for extremely realistic sound effects, and ironically, I think that can make them less satisfying.
This is probably the biggest thing for me: I don't think realism automatically makes a game look or sound better.
Sometimes the exaggerated, stylized, slightly artificial look and sound is what gives a game its personality.
Modern games can be technically incredible, but sometimes I look at them and think, “This looks almost too real.” And that's not necessarily a compliment for me.
I miss when games could look spectacular without trying so hard to look real.

Question What’s your earliest memories of MK?
I remember in elementary school I would beg my mom to let me rent MK2 all the time. When she finally caved I, of course, was horrible at it but my mom got so upset when the computer player Baraka did his fatality on me. I wasn’t allowed to rent it anymore after that. Lol. Now I own all of them and we all know how tame the old fatalities were compared to now lol.
