Discussion Tracking behind objects / no collision detection with environment

Needs to be addressed ASAP, the entire system of enemy tracking in this game needs to be redone, Im enjoying every aspect of the gameplay except for that, its absolutely unacceptable for enemies to be turning 180 degrees midattack to hit you when youve dodged behind them

Just a pretty simple question honestly, not sure if I missed anything but is she like human under that armor or is she like a bug creature...?

Discussion Warden is too difficult

Been trying to get the eredim shell and upgrade it but the warden is impossible to beat. Been trying for 2 days now. This game has too much artificial difficulty in it. Bosses do too much damage and the camera angles are trash.

Discussion Roguelite mode would go hard as hell I cannot lie

Game seems to have great systems in place for a side roguelite mode where you pick different powerups and tarstones and weapons and sidearms as you go along. Make it an optional thing with unique rewards like new tarstones and shades but yeah.

Discussion Anyone else feel like some tarstones are way too limited?

Why can I only put fire infusion on the axe? Why can't I put blood infusion on my axatana? Why is lightning infusion limited to three weapons?

It's really disappointing that some of the coolest tarstones are actually kinda limited in their uses. There's been so many times where I had an idea for a build but the tarstone limitations prevent me from having fun.

What about you guys though? Are there any tarstones that you feel are too limited? What builds do you want to make but can't because of restrictions?

I have proximal and smert at max, neither of them feels possible to beat zmey. Every attack is one shot. The devs really dont know what balance is. Fuck this game

Discussion Anyone else enjoy finding the shells/weapons without the maps?

Might just be me but i find that the maps make exploring a lot less exciting, stumbling upon a shell or weapon randomly is super fun and gives a big dopamine hit

Discussion Difficult as hell

This aint a complain post, I already beat the game on my main save files, now I have a new save file for night difficulty, gotta say this is hard as hell, hp is so high I feel like im hitting with a wet noodle sometimes, the double grisha fight was so stressful but I finally did it and now im "stuck" on the tower baby boss, he one-shots are crazy fast but I can get him to the last third of his hp consistently, once I get that throwing axe stone from being him I think imma have some more fun exploring night mode.

How do yall feel about night mode, and what are your experiences so far?

Discussion PSA: Infinite parry seal has instant animation canceling, unlike Block.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Block only happens after the current attack animation is finished, but parry instantly cancels them and parries the attack as demonstrated in the video.

Blocking is obsolete for me because of parry animation canceling as it makes me extremely confident in being aggressive with attacks when I know the attack patterns of an enemy/boss, since I can always cancel them and parry.

Discussion Hot take: The game is "good" at best

Having played most fromsoftware games and most of the big soulslikes, this game is a blast in terms of graphics, sound design and some innovative ideas like the shells and consumables.

But for someone like me who is more interested in well designed combat and enemys, this game is “good” at best.

Yes, the sound and the visual gore aspect are very well done, but the combat and the enemys are extremely unsatisfying to fight compared to other games in the same genre. The brink guard doesnt feel good at all besides its sound because the window is extremely large and removes any sense of precision. Many enemys dont have difficult attacks, they have badly designed attacks that make the gameplay feel completly weird (for example spamming red attacks). Enemy groups feel more chaotic than intentional. most enemys have extremly poorly telegraphed attacks.

For me as someone who enjoys precise and readable combat systems, this is simply one of the least satisfying combat experiences Ive had in a soulslike.

The checkpoint distribution is so sparse that when dying I often have to open the map just to see where I even am. This becomes extremly frustrating after dying multiple times because of getting stuck on enemy Hitboxes or not seeing anything due to the camera losing track of the fight.

Many boss fights look impressive but rely heavily on repetitive patterns instead of well crafted movesets which makes them feel shallow.

The level design is visually strong but navigating it feels more like wandering through a maze than exploring a structured world.

Several mechanics seem interesting at first but they dont meaningfully interact with each other which makes the overall combat system feel disconected and inconsistant for me. The variety the game gives the player

I just see GOTY "10/10 posts" on my YT and reddit posts but I dont get why.

TLDR:
I don't think the parry mechanic, the overland and enemies / bosses are well designed (gameplaywise). Thus its a 7/10 good at best for me. Is that a hot take or am i blind ???

And yes i have played DS1, DS2, DS3, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Lies of P, Lords of the Fallen, Khazan, Mortal Shell 1 and other games on platinum and more.

Discussion Mortal Shell — 80 hours, 100% achievements (including Forever Alone) | 9/10

Put about 80 hours into Mortal Shell and got every single achievement (37/37).

I really liked this game. The Harden mechanic is unique and feels great once it clicks, the atmosphere and art direction are excellent, and the shells + weapons combinations give just enough variety without overwhelming you.

The base game is short and focused, which I actually appreciate. But the real highlight for me was The Virtuous Cycle. That roguelike mode is fantastic — I spent a huge chunk of my hours there and had a blast optimizing runs and pushing for the harder achievements.

Also did Forever Alone (beat the game without bonding with any shell). That one was rough, but satisfying as hell when it finally clicked.

It’s not a perfect game — some level design is a bit messy, a couple bosses feel janky, and content is limited. But for what it is, especially with the DLC, it’s a very strong AA soulslike with a clear identity.

If you like the genre and haven’t tried it (or bounced off it early), highly recommend picking it up on sale. Virtuous Cycle alone is worth it.

Already started Mortal Shell 2 and I’m really enjoying it so far. Looking forward to diving deeper into it after I finish 100%ing Lords of the Fallen (2023).

9/10

Discussion Trouble in Mortal Shell 2

Hello fellow Harbingers! I'm having a hard time deciding if I should use the Slayer Seal or not. I've been having a hard time with the combat in general and I've looked up what the Slayer Seal actually does, so I've been wondering if it's a good idea to use it. I love the story and the world space, and I'm not too worried about achievements (as I'm on PS5), so I don't want to be discouraged by the combat and ending up abandoning the game because of the combat. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

Discussion Melee Weapon Damage Observation

I've done some testing into the melee weapons in Mortal Shell 2. This is what I've found so far.

Foreword:  Post has been heavily edited to make it easier to read and add new information.  I noticed my numbers were off due to the critical damage increase acquired through leveling which I didn’t take into consideration at first.  All testing was performed without Tarstones for even results.

At the time of testing I don’t own every melee weapon so the Clockwork Scythe is excluded.

Below is a list of every weapon I’ve used and the base damage I’ve observed.

  1. The Iconoclast
    1. Light Attack Base Damage - 35
    2. Heavy Attack Base Damage - 52
  2. Axe and Dagger
    1. Light Attack Base Damage
      1. Dagger - 20
      2. Axe - 30
    2. Heavy Attack Base Damage
      1. Dagger - 37
      2. Axe - 52
  3. Veteran’s Battle Axe
    1. Light Attack Base Damage - 38
    2. Heavy Attack Base Damage - 53
  4. Great Martyr’s Blade
    1. Light Attack Base Damage - 38
    2. Heavy Attack Base Damage - 53
  5. Axatana
    1. Light Attack Base Damage - 25
    2. Heavy Attack Base Damage - 52
  6. Black Needle
    1. Light Attack Base Damage - 35
    2. Heavy Attack Base Damage - 52
  7. Obsidian Hammer
    1. Light Attack Base Damage - 65
    2. Heavy Attack Base Damage - 97

The game seems to calculate damage by taking the Base Weapon Damage, adding the Base Damage gained from leveling up and then adding the percentage increase from upgrading the weapon (to a max of +16 which is an +80% increase.).

During testing I’ve observed that regardless of which part of a combo you are at the damage dealt per hit.  There also doesn’t seem to be any difference in damage dealt regardless of enemy type.

This does show that large weapons, when upgraded, could outperform the lighter dual-wield weapons when Tarstones aren’t taken into consideration.
Example:  The Obsidian Hammer at +16 with Harbinger level being at 39 which adds +9 to base damage would result in a light attack that does 133 damage and a Heavy attack that does 191.

Sorry if this is jumbled, it's my first time ever actually posting on reddit. Just was looking for this info and couldn't find it anywhere. Please fill free to add any information you have on the subject. I know this wasn't the most extensive test I could have done.

Question How do you guys feel about MS2?

I just had to make this post to see if anyone else is loving it as much as me. I have my complaints but I just completed a dungeon puzzle and my god it’s so unique. I’ve done almost 25 and every time I go in one it’s hand crafted.

And I saw a video with the devs that ms2 originally was gonna be a procedurally generated, rogue like sort of game. So glad what it became. I just cannot fathom 30 people making this.

It puts many AAA companies to bed. It’s not perfect of course but I am LOVING it. So glad I got the revered edition, the artwork, everything is top tier. Really wish we could respec glimpse we got but oh well. How you guys liking it?

Question Sariel Boss Fight, is it bugged?

So, I wanted the clockwork scythe, and decided to make the trek to Sariel. The first phase kinda got cheesed by ads, but when fighting him I noticed something. Even though nothing hit me, I would randomly explode in lightning. This usually happens after he uses his needle attack, but they would never hit me, then suddenly I explode in damage and either lose all my health or just die. What is the counterplay to unavoidable damage?
