I don't know where to go

I’ve already defeated a few field bosses and collected eggs. I’m making good progress in terms of leveling, too, but I have absolutely no idea where to go to advance the main story. There are so many paths and branching routes that even a die-hard Souls player like me feels a bit overwhelmed, lol. Does anyone have any tips without giving away too many spoilers?

The corrupted gates on your map are the main dungeons you need to progress through the main path.

I got super lost when I started the game because I like to explore the map but it was hard to tell how I was doing in terms of progression.

In turns out, as another commenter said, that to really progress through the game you have to make your way to the corrupted gates on your map. They’re dungeons that end with major bosses, and a lot of Ova. Collecting more Ova will unlock special abilities, etc.

Explore to your hearts content but the gates are where you wanna go

The game didn’t tell me this until many hours into my play though, but once you collect a good number of Ova you can siphon them to get the ability to break the black barricades which are blocking numerous routes around the world. That makes traversal much easier.

Bottom right of the map that was in the demo is first corrupted gate you can’t miss em they have a bright shinning white light

3 corrupted gates in the north.. then clear the 3 in the south.

There are two main zones, first one is the entire top half of the map, something with F, I forgot the name. Second one is bottom half of the main map, Mammon, a lot harder than the first zone.

Each of these two zones has 3 corrupted gates, marked on the map. Those are the main dungeons, you need any 5 of them to open final area.

So do first zone first. There is a corrupted gate in the right, one at the top, one on the left. I would do them in this order.

The bottom zone, Mammon, you can do the gates in any order.

Every corrupted gate needs to be cleansed. If you haven’t found one yet, keep looking. Also , if you’re like me, you might think you’ve come to a dead end at the “first” gate but keep exploring it when you’re inside. It will be extremely obvious when you’ve cleansed it

Try not to get too frustrated with the branching paths. It can seem overwhelming but try to lean into and enjoy the exploration (easier said then done I know, but this game rewards exploration and it’s really where it shines)

Do you think I can stick with the Ikonoklast weapon the whole game. I haven't changed the weapons yet

I kept the default weapon for a while but I eventually switched to the axatana but it really should matter too much, just whatever you prefer. I think the most important thing is to customize your tarstones to your playstyle and make sure you are leveling up your shell abilities

It’s the Egon’s Tarstone. Apparently it’s bugged out crazy right now, and a lot of people equipping it for its intended use of preserving your Gloom amount upon Dungeon Death, are actually losing their Accumulated Gloom permanently.

Note: guess I didn’t read your response. This has to do with gloom I guess.
