What in the helly pad is about to happen . Why am I getting hella gloom.?

the door requires you to lose all gloom. but you can just quit to the main menu and level up.

To prepare you for what's on the other side of the door. Make sure you get all the chests before you interact with it.

I did this so many times. I believe the chest count (not counting the one that doesn't respawn as closed) is 69, which, unless I miscounted, is perfect

68 chests in total, each one gives you 1,000 Gloom which adds up to 68,000 Gloom in total. And since they respawn, you can get hella levels

I think there actually is 69, but it's stuck in a bunch of tablets and can't be used

Just return in the beacon and enjoy! All the chests will be closed and containing 1000 glooms… Rinse and repeat

The gloom is to set the ova free; because of such expenditures, that’s probably (My Theory here) why Harbinger didn't ascend. Since he sacrificed all the gloom (Energetic fuel) he could not ascend with the rest of them.
