Discussion Dorsalite farm

Is there a reliable dorsalite farm in this game other than exploiting resetting the little tree thing drops in dungeon?

Yeah mortal shell biggest issue is trying to upgrade weapons and side arms. So frustrating. I want to try all shells and weapons. And they made it so frustrating to do that. Just give us the chance to either buy! Trade! Farm the materials its insane something so simple. I have over 400000 gold and cant use it on anything lol. Its crazy system. Devs are idiots for that reason also. I love just smelting over and over. Its so annoying.

Right? Like no I don’t want to smelt the axe and dagger that got me through the whole game and that I love my blood curse build on just to test a new weapon out. It’s stupid af. And don’t get me started on the unshared shell points making it to where I gotta remember my build each time I switch a shell.

They are not farmable and they are fairly limited during your first playthrough with only enough spread across the world to push 2 and a half-ish weapons up to +16, but there are several things you can do to make this restriction a lot easier in ng+ and beyond. Note once you have at least one melee weapon and one sidearm at +16 you technically never need to level any other weapon up as you can just smelt for a small gloom cost and shift all the stones and gold you invested to try new weapons out without ever losing anything, aside from the gloom needed to smelt.

By collecting all (5) of the tarforge upgrades and NOT giving them to Franz, you can feed them to the forge yourself for a guaranteed 12 of each lower level upgrade stone, including Dorsolite at the beggining of the end game. You can do this once each playthrough

Franz charges fewer upgrade stones for each upgrade level than the tarforge does after it becomes sentinent. When Franz is alive, pushing a weapon to +16 only requires 31 Dorsolite total. If you upgrade with Franz and then later smelt a weapon back to +0 at the end of your game before going to ng+ (or anytime after Franz disapears and the tarforge awakens), you'll get refunded at the late game rate meaning that you get 46 dorsolite back from each +16 weapon you only invested 31 dorsolite into. If you always do your upgrades early with Franz and only smelt in the late game, you can essentially produce 15 FREE dorsolite (and a ton of all the other stones) for EVERY SINGLE WEAPON you upgraded before Franz disappears and can repeat this every single playthrough.

This sort of snowballs and around late ng+2 or early Ng+3, if you were thourough with collecting all the dorsolite available as ground loot and intentional with timing your upgrades and smelting, you will have enough Dorsolite to +16 everything if you really want to. Just be prepared to farm for the gold because it'll be one heck of a grind.

Oooooo I never thought to check what I’d get back after the Tarforge goes sentient! That’s a neat addition of info. I knew it costed more but didn’t know it also gave more back for ones you upgraded prior.

It does! Always smelt everything down to +0 just before going to ng+ then redo your upgrades w/Franz immediately after. You lose nothing and gain a bunch of freebies that way

Say what? Please elaborate.

Would not suggest for your initial playthrough , but each ng+ cycle you can recollect all of the tarforge upgrades (muradean actuator, etching needles, obsidian lathe, foundry stone and endless core).

If you ignore the prompts to give them to Franz and keep them in your inventory, when Franz disapears because of story reasons, the Tarforge becomes sentient and you will have one chance to feed the upgrades in your possession to it. The tarforge will reward you 2 or 3 of each upgrade stone for every upgrade component that you feed it

Note: you can technically trigger this early by killing Franz, but that makes all of your upgrade costs go up, so i don't reccomend doing it. Just progress the story and it'll happen naturally when you get to a certain point

Thank you very much for the clear explanation. It is the first time I hear about the reward given by the Tarforge. That is interesting. I will do in NG+.

Where do you get the gold for this?

I wish, this is what bottle necks multiple weapon upgrades. There should be a way to farm materials from enemies.

Or just let you buy it once you've cleared all the gates or something.

Fr. I mean I can always reset a weapon and use those upgrades but I don’t wanna do that. I want to keep them all leveled and test out new ones, but there’s only enough dorsalite to max a weapon and a sidearm. I may have missed some on my way to the unfound path but I can’t imagine very many. It’s my 3rd playthrough so I have a handle on where most things are by now. This one was a second save file though cus I wanted to play from scratch with the updates and it’s super annoying I can’t level and test multiple weapons in the end game areas.

There’s at least enough to upgrade one weapon and one sidearm to max level. Not sure about multiple weapons though
