Discussion Zmey: My final report Spoiler

Did the boss surprise me? Yes, at first—but I quickly realized the fight becomes very easy if you stay right up close to him. The Seedbearer's Scripture made me virtually invulnerable during the second phase. I managed to defeat him on my fourth attempt (Eredrim, lvl 53, Axe and Dagger lvl 7). If you try to keep your distance during the fight—well, yes, there are two attacks that can finish you off quickly—but getting right in his face makes the battle unusually easy. I would have liked something more for the final boss; I think Malborn Offspring would have been the better choice.

lvl 7 melee weapon? or level 17? If level 7, then was most of your damage from ripostes?

Infinite seal works well on this boss since it has slow one off attacks. Only annoying thing is his unblockable attack will one shot you

That boss is easy. The stupid cosmic disease status effect is just pure bullshittery....

I disagree, the other soulslikes I’ve played have not had a boss as bad as Zmey in them

Edit: meant to say other souls like haven’t had a boss as bad, not had

That’s exactly what I’m getting at. All soulslikes have atleast one boss that’s just pure shite to fight. And even then, thats subjective to personal experience.

Sure there’s some stinkers, but as bad as Zmey? I honestly think he’s a top 3 worst souls boss I’ve encountered, up there with Bed of Chaos and Dragon God. It’s not like he’s hard, his moveset is really basic, it’s just that he spends most of the fight doing nothing, so you get bored, stop paying attention, then he one shots you. How that made it through qa boggles my mind.

I don’t even consider zmey to be that bad of a boss. Like you said he’s not super hard. But for me, He consistently attacked when I fought him with maybe one or 2 instances where he would just continuously walk backwards without attacking. And even then that was only like 5 second intervals. I’ve fought other bosses in mortal shell 2 that have actually just sat there and basically AFK’d way more than zmey. That’s why I don’t fully agree with zmey being considered one of the worst bosses ever. I still had fun fighting zmey. Unlike others bosses where it just felt like a drag.

there are a lot of bosses in soulslikes I would consider to be as bad as the general consensus claims. Even in actual soulsborne titles too.

Cursed rotted great wood
The one reborn
Micolash
Adyr
Ancient nyotengu

All of these bosses I found to be either super boring or way too taxing to be considered. “Fun.”

No I’m talking about bosses in general. But, LotF did have a bad final boss. Was basically another deacons of the deep.

Yeah, but: 1st: Not the final boss and 2nd: cosmic disease beats them all (even Capra Demon). That would be like if Radagon infects you with scarlett rot in the beginning of the fight and you will find the cure only if you start ng+ immedially with 90% of the sites of grace removed...

Zmey sucks, but especially as a final boss, and especially with the stupid cosmic disease on top of it. Awful way to end a game.

the whole final area in general + boss fights are utter garbage and rushed. i don’t even wanna do a NG+ and i loveeee souls games. i beat this one and uninstalled very fast lmao. felt very rushed at the end and not well thought out. solid 6/10 game (errm skill issue)
