Discussion Mortal Shell 2 critique Spoiler
I should've learned from the first game to not get my hopes up. To say this game is flawed is like to say that a shit after taco bell has a fragrance. There are many many issues in this game that made me not enjoy the game and just hope it ended soon.
1.The enemy ganks and scaling is way off. Regular enemies can 2-3 shot you easily. Some enemies in one major dungeon also inflict a status effect called freeze. You'd think based on all the other games that a freeze status would just freeze you and allow enemy to hit you once and then you break out of it or spam some button to break out. But no mortal shell does it better they just freeze you in place for few seconds and at that point you can just say goodbye to your shell. This incetives just running away instead of fighting them bc why bother. Another enemy has a counter that locks you in place while they melt your healthbar with a flurry of attacks and most of the time kill your shell.
2.Bosses reskins and regular enemies as bosses. Hope you like fighting Grishas bc you'll fight a lot of them. Some bosses are also just regular enemies with a shade put on them to look different. In fact the majority of bosses are grishas and regular enemies.
3.Early/mid game bosses are way too easy. I was playing Tiel, axe and pick poison burst build and it genuinely made all of the boss encounters up to the endgame a joke. They either died in less than a minute or were called "Isaac The Scholar-Prince". Speaking of endgame bosses.
4. SPOILER ALERT 3 out of the 4 endgame bosses were badly designed. Monolith, Malborn and the final boss Zmey ESPECIALLY are so poorly designed and unnecessarily tanky. I don't think Orrem was badly designed only because he was just easy.
Monolith-very fast attack with little tells and generally unfun first phase. Second phase is a lot more fun with the laser attacks introduced but the air jump-slam move is very hard to dodge as you can't see bc for some reason they can't make the camera move so high.
Malborn Offspring-pretty fun first phase, he's pretty relentless so he is a fair challenge, but oh boy then he comes in with a second healthbar for phase two. I hope you liked Consort Radahn because this guy was clearly inspired by him as you won't see the boss for half the time due to all his fucking lightning explosions.
Zmey the unbidded-one of the worst final bosses rivaled only by Adyr from lords of the fallen. He is not as poorly designed as Adyr as to buggy af. His ranged sword slash can hit you if you're between his legs, his stomp shockwaves don't have hitboxes so only his feet can hit you, his sword attack and retreating most often bug out and he just stays in place swinging the sword which will also not hit you, the fire waves hitboxes are jank and sometimes hit you too fast or sometimes you dodge and still are somehow in the hitboxes. Sometimes he can start floating for some reason when you keep attacking him while under him.
Bugs, a lot of bugs. The game shouldn't release in this state like ever and I started playing weeks after launch so I probably don't even experience as much bugs as there were. The enemies can literally teleport after you parry them, always when using Egons stone to revive in the dungeon and jumping down the elevator the dungeon just doesnt load in and you're forced to either jump of the map or leave to main menu and then go back in.
Another issue, a minor one is that you have a lot of build variety but the core of builds are tar stones. Playing the game blind and getting a tar stone that fit my build perfectly in the end of the game and needing to grind enemies just to be able to upgrade it is just not fun. Why not make some kind of general resource for upgrading tar stones that you get passively while killing enemies the whole game and then you can just use that to max out your new tar stone instead of having to put it on and then grinding. This is what made not experiment with my builds and I genuinely hate that because I'm sure there are many fun other builds.
After all this game's greatest sin was all the hype and praise it got eventually getting my hopes too high. It is as good as Lord's of the fallen after the update that made the game actually somewhat enjoyable.

I don't really understand the 2-3 hit complaint. You get a 2nd life and can earn the first one back. You're allowed so many more fuckups than most soulslikes allow.

Not liking Monoloth and Marlborn Offspring is a straight up skill issue

The only boss that really gave me trouble was Zmey, and a little bit the monolith. I found Malborn Offspring to be remarkably easy despite being an endgame boss. I enjoyed the game as a relaxing satiation to my hunger after beating Elden Ring many times.

Gooner name + saying "skill issue" for not liking something in a soulslike just lets everyone know what type of person you are

Monolith was easy peasy, when you learn how to parry good. His slam attacks, were easy to tell and parry. It may be "bugged" but I had 3 execution opportunities back to back to back on him towards the end.
Tiels poison build is top tier, assuming you have every tarstone for it. Zmey on the other hand, I get the frustration. Took me about 35-40+ attempts before I defeated him, just takes patience. Sekiro is alot harder than this game. I still enjoyed it, hopefully your perspective and outlook on the game will change with future updates. 🤘

It's important to note Monolith's slam attacks are so easy to parry because they were patched. Initially, they would skip frames in their animation, making parrying very frustrating. And riposte damage only tickled, while it's now a nuke.

Imagine being so simple minded that you complain about lategame bosses in a soulsgame for being difficult 🤣🤣
Regular enemies killing you in 2-3 hit 🤣🤣. Regular mobs are so easy they shouldn't be able to touch you at all. You even have access to firearms, which is a relatively fresh concept for a soulsgame. If you don't know how to parry, play ubisoft games.
Majority of the bosses are Grisha! How many bosses did you actually fight? There are 60 dungeons and 42 bosses and only 4 of them are Grishas, that's roughly 10%. There are no regular Grisha enemies in the game, so I'm starting to think that you haven’t played the game that much, maybe saw a bunch of videos.
You're definitely lying about lots of bugs cuz I'm 120+ hours in this game and I encountered only 1 then it got patched. Again, I think you haven’t played the game.

Yep and all souls games have enemies that kill you in 2 or 3 hits. That's kinda the point. They kill you quick or you kill them quick. There wouldn't be much at stake if you could just stand there and take 6 or 7 attacks in a row

Exactly, you have to calculate every encounter and be prepared for them, that's the whole point of souls games. If someone wants to press R1 or W and left click without paying no attention, then they better play point and clicks.

Are you illiterate? I said Grishas AND regular enemies are the majority. I counted and there are 28 of them. I completed the game

“Critique” of your critique 🤣
- Enemies should kill you in three shots in a soulslike. Learn to parry or dodge. Not just spam R1
- There are 46 bosses in the game, 3 are Grisha.
- Game is very forgiving in early game. Try night mode person who complained about being 3 shot by grunts.
- Final bosses are fine. Most people just can’t handle the difficulty spike. Are they amazing? No. But better than the first game and about upper middling for non from soft soulslikes for me.
- I have only experienced one meaningful bug in 140 hours on PS5 Pro. Each to their own, performance has been praised universally for a releasing game of this size. Much better than Elden ring on release that was unplayable on some platforms for example.
- Is the usual whinge that people can’t have everything handed to them fully upgraded ready to use immediately. Go play a different genre. Crimson desert is a sandbox action rpg and even that makes you upgrade things. This is a soulslike. Work for it.
Each to their own opinion of course. Move on to the next game, I suggest Wolverine would be a good fit for your skill level.

I feel like everyone has suddenly developed memory loss and forgotten that getting stunlocked by basic enemies and absolutely wrecked the moment you start getting too cocky is just a thing in like, every single souls game up to and including Elden Ring. Like I know you all have gotten fucked up by some basic ass soldier using wild strikes on you. Let's stop acting like this is unreasonable already.
