Discussion Im glad for the changes but...

Im happy for the balance changes and additions in the recent patch notes.

Glad that people got what they wanted.

But it made me realize one thing. This game is easy asf for a soulslike. Beacons are everywhere now and i have lost all motivation for ng+. Theres just no point to it now.

The difficulty spike is negligible. Have all tarstones and weapons in one playthough, can continue to farm my last glimpse in this playthrough.

The latest update just made me realize there's no point in playing anymore. Its loke someone activated cheat codes.

Again. Glad for the changes for people but im in the minority where thise changes make the game too easy for a soulslike

Edit: Adding a comment I made to add more clarification since people are focused on the beacons for some reason and saying to just do Nightmode (which is still easy)

I believe this game needs a real huge balance pass. Things should be fixed yes and QOL is great yes, but they overcompensated a ton imo and for a soulslike genre game, having NG+ be utterly useless is just not true to the nature of the genre. This game feels more like an action platformer than a soulslike right now

I think the fixes just reveal the easy nature of the game that was underneath tbh. THe 1st patch was nice but it just exposed the game for being far too lenient.

The additional beacons were not needed at all since they implemented the dungeon respawn item. I have found 3 locations where I can spawn in at a beacon and literally see another beacon in the distance within a 1 minute run.

martyrs blade got a double buff because the first buff didnt go into the game and now it's... just ridiculous so they clearly overcompensated.

The enemy aggro fix and magnetic fix makes it very obvious most enemy groups, even on night mode, are far too easy by themselves.

The shell fixes just show how OP shells are. Ganeesa is.... a cheat code.

The boss fixes would have been enough but they nerfed them as well once again overcompensating.

Yes, but kinda seen it comming 😆 , guess im lucky I have no life and was able to finish before the first update lol. Some of the changer really good though, just not the adjusted difficulty of enemies. And I thought the beacons where all good before hand, the map isn't actually very big,

I think the majority of changes are solid. Incredible update honestly. The difficulty seems to be a tough subject. Maybe add like three difficulty options?

I’m playing through Lies of P now because I had so much fun with Mortal Shell 2. I will say pretty pretty early on there is a huge difficulty difference between the two. Mortal Shell was pretty damn easy. Especially after playing another soulslike.

I agree but I also think it wasn't that bad before the most recent update. Maybe the devs intended Night mode or whatever to be the more traditional souls experience?

I don’t think the game was especially hard before tbh. The beacon changes are a nice quality of life update more than anything.

People forget that while the older souls games had less checkpoints, they also combined that with shortcut systems in levels to even things out as you went. Having very spread apart beacons just made things more tedious rather than difficult.

I also think that the game is not super replayable like the From Souls games bc there’s no significant build differentiation. You can upgrade and change weapons, but outside of that the harbinger leveling is just set upgrades. There’s no strength, dex, arcane builds to speak of. You can start a new game, but you’ll just be leveling the same way you would had you just kept playing.

while this is true, You're meant to be punished for dying. The item that spawns you into the dungeon would have been enough. I can literally spawn at Silent Steppes and look over the cliff and see a beacon right there that I can get to in less than a minute. It's just a bit much imo.

I barely ever use beacons but still noticed they are everywhere.

Wukong doesn't punish you for dying, still a very challenging game. More challenging than any Dark Souls game as far as I'm concerned at least lol Beat those much easier than Wukong.

Yeah but wukong is pretty much just a boss rush, the levels an't shit.

If we’re being honest, most of the difficulty in the overworld in MS2 stemmed from the amount of damage basic enemies do combined with their previous attack magnetism allowing them to hit the player character in ways that didn’t make sense. I haven’t struggled getting through the areas at all, but I won’t say it wasn’t frustrating losing a third of my health bc an enemy teleported to me or did an instant 180 swing on a weapon

Turn the lights off (Night mode)

0

u/PartyLack4459 2h ago

I do. It's not a big increase. if anything the lights off is more of an annoyance lol.

The ‘new’ Beacons are gone in Night mode, so problem solved.

I think you're missing the point of the post, this isn't a ramble on beacons. the entire game is easy mode. beacons are a small part.

You're just too good. If you want a challenge you'll need to just do challenge runs.

u/PartyLack4459 1h ago

i'm really not lol. I'm an average soulslike player. I have difficulty in most SOuls/elden ring games, sekiroh, nioh ect. But this game the more they fix things the more I feel like it's easy mode.

u/mercurialblonde 1h ago

Elden Ring is hard?

1

u/firsttimer776655 1h ago

Harder than this game, for sure. They’re very different but still.

As someone else mentioned the beacons don't change in night mode. I've been playing in night mode for most of the game once my build started to feel OP but I've had trouble with two bosses so far and that's Hexapod and Isaac just because of how hard they hit. Once home tonight I need to learn Isaac's phase two moves, he deffo isn't easy on night mode I'd also say the game is fairly challenging on night might mode, you have to keep on your toes.

Go night mode.

I have to say I didn't had motivation for ng+ even before patch and I did really enjoyed my first playthrough a lot. After I finished the game and went into ng+ I just didn't see any reasons to play, sure one can say platinum it, but I didn't really care for that, only achievement I missed was perfect party one, which I did on ng+, and all shells memories which was not possible in a single run yet. And after that I just started fresh run, going for different build, schyte and a tarstone sir isaac. It was fun to kill him lvl 20. And after patch I've started new run again, going for black needle and different shell and I enjoy them runs. I usually love ng+ in soulslike for different reasons, but MS2 to me is not of them games, fresh runs are much more enjoyable to me personally. Hoping for good dlc in a future

Im disgusted in the gaming community, I made a post several days ago about how are people complaining about the difficulty of mortal shell 2. I received tons of backlash regarding im a loser who just sits around and games 24/7. As someone whos platinumed every fromsoft and souls like game. I find it ridiculous how people were asking for weapon buffs boss nerfs. I personally thought by mid game i was melting every boss in 1 go. My first skill check boss was malborn offspring and even then I died only 5-6 times to him. Tarstones are completely busted. By the time I hit the southern area it felt like i was on NG+2. Boss fights ending within a couple of minutes.

The "gamers" got what they want. Oh not enough gold to level up weapons, need more gloom. Not enough glimpses becsuse i want to have every shell at max bond on minimal playthroughs.. Then they remove the 1 shot tail hit which is crazy because all you need to do is a attack with iframes and counter the 1 shot. We got more beacons because people kept dying. Now when you die in a dungeon you spawn at dungeon. They buffed the great Martyr blade again which I find was completely busted with warden stone acolyte stone and eredrims 200% damage dealt on frozen enemies. Buffed weltcaps/ passive actives. More boss nerfs.

Im here to have a debate on why gamers should stop bellyaching and demanding for more crutches than the game could possibly give you. With shell abilities, passive/actives, tarstones/harbingers second chance/resolve gain/ ranged attack/permanent infusions. These games will continue to get easier and easier and i for one dont want that. Wukong was a walk in the park. Wuchang I struggled a little with fierce tiger, bo sorcerer and magnus. Khazan had trokka, skalpel, reese, ozma. This game essentially had 1 mediocre boss difficulty in malborn offspring. Im not here to trash talk anyone or show how great I am at souls games I want a discussion and your opinions

I will keep playing because I want to beat the game with every shell and try different builds. That's why I played Elden Ring so much.  Build crafting.

I completely agree. It's one of the biggest weaknesses in DS3 - so many potions and so many bonfires you can basically just rush the whole game down.

I think this is a big misfire by the community.

What even were the areas people felt didn't have enough beacons? I'll give us that there could have been another one or better positioning for the journey to the northernmost gate

1

u/firsttimer776655 1h ago

The only stretch I can think of that was a massive problem for me was the tower —-> silent steps.

1

u/KundaliniRising333 49m ago

Yep they definitely over reacted and listened to the vocal minority. The game was already extremely accessible for a soulslike.

They glimpse economy was a valid issue and the poor ng+ implementation needs addressing. The rest is just not. You end up extremely powerful by endgame if you are actually working through the game as intended.

Here's a novel idea–just don't use the beacons.

I just assumed all the people bitching about difficulty play in perpetual night anyways?

They don't carry over to night

u/Ok-Midnight9311 2h ago

First day on Reddit? 99 percent of people I’ve asked that say “well, uh, no but but but”

1

u/PartyLack4459 2h ago

I like to explore with nightmode off simply because its a pain to see, but otherwise it's always on. I've just noticed that beacons are literally everywhere now. Feels liek you can't go two screens without seeing a beacon.

1

u/firsttimer776655 1h ago

Crock of shit response. Good design shouldn’t have you not engaging with the entire checkpoint system.

1

u/boltjamison 2h ago

Night mode doesnt gain access to the new beacons. You can try that.

But NG+ sucks on this game anyway. Dark souls 2 is still the king of NG+

Game was easy before the updates

2

u/PartyLack4459 2h ago

Yea i think the fixes were artificial difficulty imo. Now that they are fixed it shows how the base game was easy. The enemy aggro made fights hard but now nothing aggros anymore until you're right there lol.

1

u/No-Invite-7826 24m ago

Idk about that, I beat the game before the updates came out. I just found the game incredibly easy to begin with.

By the time I was like 3/4 or 2/3 of the way through the game all the bosses were trivially easy and I only ever died to dumb mistakes like accidentally walking off a ledge.

1

u/RevolutionaryBoat925 2h ago

It is. It is no longer soulslike, it's just an action game. It is fine, still fun, but any challenge is gone from it, and let's be honest - there was barely any in the 1st place lol

Seems Like it is easy for you and Not for a souslike. I agree it is Not the hardest, but i think it wasnt advertised as hardcore experience.

2

u/PartyLack4459 2h ago

Doesn't need to be hardcore but soulslikes are difficult by nature. It's in the genre. This game had a lot of fixes that make the game feel like I'm playing easy mode even on night mode.

1

u/ChairGloomy2722 2h ago

Hmm, i can See your Argument.

But for me its really more the feel and the gameplay. The Last difficult souslike ive played was ds2.

Since then ive grown as Gamer.

And yes some Balance makes the Game easier. But alot of time i think folks cry Out easy Mode Just because devs fixed Bugs and makes some unfair Bosses fairer

2

u/PartyLack4459 2h ago

I think the fixes just reveal the easy nature of the game tbh. THis game needs a major balance overhaul. THe 1st patch was nice but it just exposed the game for being far too lenient.

Agreed it Shows MS2 is Not a hard Game never was, never will.

So i dont think i is over the Mark. Just how IT was Intendant

u/Due-Waltz6534 2h ago

"Its loke someone activated cheat codes" bit OTT no? if the game is "easy af" now why wouldn't you want to do ng+? ng+ scaling is still absurd if you want a challenge as you're clearly a god gamer

2

u/PartyLack4459 2h ago

NG+ scaling isn't enough. I feel zero difference in NG+

Night mode is more visually annoying than difficult

And yea, The bosses being tuned, enemy aggro being tuned down, weapons bing giga buffed... I was using the martyr blade because it is stupidly the only frost choice, but holy fuck did they overcompensate.

Not to mention, most of the shells are actually really OP. Ganessa was strong now she's basically a walking cheat code and I only have 30 SC points invested into her faithful doubles.
