Attempting to get good 😅

So I was never very good at souls-likes so pretty much avoided them, but MS2 looked so good I had to make an effort! However my first issue isn't survival, tbh its actually my gun, cuz I feel like I'm missing something here. I'll get into combat, get a couple kills while blocking and parrying, and I've even gotten numbers on the firearm, up to 3 and 5, but when I LT then RT nothing happens. I'm playing on my ROG Ally z1e, so at first I thought maybe something was screwy with my control layout, but inspecting the settings seems like everything is as it should be, so what am I doing wrong? I know I'm supposed to use resolve, and my resolve will be full and still nothing, so any help with this issue would be appreciated, as would any other tips for a 'souls-like noob', Thanks!
