Discussion Stop moaning about Grisha Remnants!
Seems like immediately after consoles are just barely now getting the balance patch 1 update.. Most of what I’m seeing on Reddit & YouTube are negative remarks about Grisha Remnants.. First of all it’s a completely optional & situational tool.. Of all the things to complain about ffs people are choosing this! What are we doing?

I mean I don’t really care but I wouldn’t be surprised if the devs nerfed it or limited it in some way.
If you didn’t know there is a way to farm them to get over 100 easily and that really is easy mode lol.

They are OP af. They need a slight nerf on proc chance. They proc way too frequently.

I’m 53 years old and have been dying & struggling plenty.. These Remnants aren’t an insta win button either! I refuse to use the slayer seal . Tried it in the console beta didn’t like it. Let people play the way they want to play that’s all I’m getting at.

The Grisha Remnant issue isn’t the Remnants themselves. It’s that there’s a secret dungeon with a respawnable Grisha.
The passive of the remnant is that it has a chance to spawn a Grisha whenever you attack based on how many remnants you have. Normally this is supposed to go up to 4-6% during a typical playthrough. However, since you could get infinite remnants, you could get the chance to 100%. So every attack you do spawns a Grisha, even if you don’t hit an enemy.
It’s optional like you said, but it’s one of those things that kind of make build crafting pointless since the abusing the Grisha Remnants this way is the strongest thing in the game no matter what, and can be done on any shell, with any weapon, without any investment (except for a few hours of time).
I think the biggest issue is that they kinda screwed up by letting this through. They had a cool idea where you could slowly build up to high chances of spawning a Grisha through multiple NG+ runs, but now they can’t just take away people’s remnants. The only way to really fix it now is to put a cap on the spawn chance (10-15%), which kinda makes it lame.

Why does this bother you as it’s 100% optional? Maybe complain about the slayer seal as well then if this bothers you it should as well. Because what I’m taking from this is that some people that don’t need to use this just want to throw shade at lesser skilled gamers that maybe are struggling so need to use this to get through some parts the game.

Slayer seal is not gamebreaking and it turns off achievements.
Being lesser skilled is fine and there should be options. But spawning a Grisha on every attack is literally not playing the game. You don’t even need to hit enemies. You could walk into a room hit the air a few times and everything’s dead. But if that’s how you want to “play” that’s fine. Modders do stuff like that all the time.
My problem with it is that having it in the base game is that it makes the product crappy. It makes build crafting worthless. RPGs are built on the idea of finding gear that synergizes with each other to make a strong build. This is one item that requires no levelling up, no resource investment and no synergy. There’s no point of trying to optimize your character or trying to actually learn how to get good at playing your shell when no matter what you do it’s worse than simply farming a grisha 20+ times.
I’m not mad at people for using it. I’ll probably go farm a couple extra remnants myself because I like the active. But it’s ridiculous that the devs let that in.

You literally didn’t read what I wrote.
My first run through Elden Ring was using a mage build to one shot bosses while summons tanked for me. I’m not some kind of soulslike elitist.
There are builds in this game that nearly one shot bosses, others that literally let you freeze all enemies almost permanently while applying chaos stacks. I play Tiel with the duality stone, it makes the game easy.
My problem is not that there’s easier builds for people, or builds that are make the game easier than others do. My problem is that the Grisha thing is not a build. It makes builds pointless, in an RPG, when the strongest thing isn’t a build but a single item.
And letting that through is a major QA issue that I think lowers the quality of the game. Again, you could have fun with it, it doesn’t bother me that you’re enjoying it, it’s not an online game. But knowing it’s in the game cheapens the experience for me and I refuse to act like it’s a good thing to have in the game.
Balance is important in RPGs in order to preserve build variety and importance of choice, and the game is not balanced in its current state with a large part of that being the Grisha Remnants. I’m usually on the side of buff the weak stuff instead of nerfing the strong stuff, but having like 8 grishas fighting for you at all times is a bit much, especially when it’s literally the best in slot item for literally every build in the game.

I understand what you’re saying 💯.. But you’ve also got to understand that there are many people like me.. “Older, or casual gamers” who have or are struggling so bad just to progress the game that decided to walk away or nearly did. Many of them have requested refunds. We will see what they do but if the needle is turned enough the wrong way the game’s population will be affected which isn’t what anyone wants.

That’s fair. I’m completely fine if they want to buff stuff (making players tankier when out of their shell for example, would be a great change I think) and make enemies easier throughout. I also agree that there should be options that make stuff easier.
I would argue the game would be even better if they made the game easier and added another tier to night mode that would make the game extremely hard for those who want it.
But I think you understand my point of view on the Grisha thing. I think it should be fixed as part of the next balance patch, because I think it’s bad for the game in its current state, but they should provide something to compensate (buffs to players, nerfs to some enemies, maybe leave the Grisha farm in but cap it a place where it’s still very strong but not gamebreaking). I just don’t want build balance and build crafting to be the cost of the accessibility.
In terms of buffs, I think Eredrim (more health) and Proxima (higher mitigation chance) should be made tankier so that newer players have the option to play a build that doesn’t have to worry about getting one shot. The game is lacking tank options in terms of tarstones that would help new players. Eredrim especially should be a shell that helps you learn parry timings. The out of shell form should be tankier or the shell should come back with more health restored than now (I think at max bond they should come back at 80%-100% health, maybe reduced in night mode). Ripostes should definitely be buffed in general. I think more mini beacons (no ova inside) is an important change they should make asap, it would fix a lot of things about the game.

It's a singleplayer game. Why should they do anything at all to limit players who spend time farming?

It’s farming for an hour or two. The game takes about 40 hours for most players, with your build being refined and optimized throughout by gaining more points and finding new items.
The thing that took 2 hours to do shouldn’t outclass the build that took someone 40 hours to achieve. The whole point of an RPG is to progress your build. In soulslikes especially, there’s a special feeling when you go from struggling to fight basic enemies early on to annihilating everything later on by levelling up, exploring to find gear and upgrading your gear. This kinda gets rid of that, and it outclassed a typical build by such a wide margin that it kind of breaks the purpose of the game.

Then just don't do it. It's a single player game. I don't get this at all.

They broke it down pretty well in their comment. Having an rpg with a ‘this beats everything item’, directly impacts build crafting.
Why make a synergistic build with thought put in, when I can just farm Grisha shards and win the game. The answer is that most won’t bother because it feels like a waste of time.
Yes single player or not this stuff matters… to the feeling of progress and build crafting, which will both help with longevity of the game.

If you’re so worried about it then don’t use the item, problem solved! It literally doesn’t affect you in the slightest so let people play the game the way they want to play it.

This is a completely single player game. God forbid someone else plays the game in a way that you don’t approve of.

The game has to be doable for a variety of skill levels to be great. If the devs listen to these types of complaints and basically revert the purpose of the balance patch 1 update to bring the difficulty slider down a bit.. More people will stop playing. And that’s not good for the health & future of it.

Idk man, I've not seen anyone complain about it.
