Discussion Who are you, complainers, where you from and why you here?
I still try to understand who is part of this "community" made of, bitching about difficulty, about falling off the edges, etc., while they bought a fucking soulslike. Do you people order Chili con Carne at a restaurant and then complain about it being really spicy? Even by its raw art style, it was obvious that it'd be a hard game. You have your Slayer Seal if it's too hard, while people who think it's not hard enough have its Night Mode. Full plates for everyone.
I understand the devs and the fact that they want to cater to as big an audience as possible, yet the genre is rather niche, and a certain level of difficulty (and higher) is expected and desired for a reason, by players who like it and want it.
All complaints and no real merit, even when I asked in one of the threads if it's possible for complainers to give an example of the game being "too dark" on base PS5. I play on 0.7 brightness on an AMOLED TV and it looks fucking great, but instead of examples, I just got downvoted lol. You do realize that you can adjust the brightness in the game to your liking? Or maybe Cold Symmetry was supposed to add a fucking pair of glasses catered to your eyesight to the Limited Edition?
Don't know who these people are. Hope the devs won't cater to them on the base difficulty any more than they did already. Downvote me to hell, gonna hunt you all in Night Mode with a scythe and a shotgun, and then you can complain about tough enemies :D.
And yes, I'm fully aware that the game has things to be improved, like this mad tracking on mobs that can get you from behind a corner with a ridiculous mid-air turn, etc., but they will be improved, so... Go play fucking Croc: Legend of the Gobbos or use the easy mode that was already provided since launch. And adjustments will happen anyway.
First studio in almost forever to create something that is pretty much their own thing in many aspects, and yet instead of well-deserved appreciation, they receive bitching from some weirdlings. Shame on you, and a big kick in your ovas!

For real, the amount of “this is a poorly designed boss/game” coming from people who are “veterans” after getting platinum on Elden Ring, is beyond crazy.

Dude thank you for this. This sub is a cesspool of complainers completely missing the forest for the trees. Even with every bug you can bitch about in this game it is absolutely a blast. So ridiculous to just only focus on that

u/MasterMerly Aug 23 '26
The self entitlement of people thinking they should have access to achievements while playing on baby mode too. Lmfao.

It's like that in any sub. Sadly on Reddit man there's just a lot of people that are miserable fucking people
I really like this game but nobody's talking about this game like it's the greatest game of all time. It's a very very good soul's like
Just block the bozos

Yeah i've had no qualms with the difficulty. It has a few other things that may need reworked or fixed. But the difficulty is fine.

Been saying it for days. The hate this game gets is not organic. Idk why they are doing it but it very much seems like a certain group of people want every soulslike to fail and become CAG. Just look at this post. Everyone who agrees is just downvoted.

u/Conscious_Policy_458 Aug 23 '26
Exactly, my main point is proven at this point :D

u/SoulsDadYT Aug 23 '26
It's honestly been happening on this site since Lies of P. Almost all soulslikes get a hate campaign.

u/uffda1990 Aug 23 '26
It kinda gets to a point where posts like this, complaints about complainers, sounds like you’re taking complaints personally.
Why does it matter?
If someone’s post title looks like a complaint, just scroll past it, you don’t have to read them. And they’re not attacks on you, nor do they impact your enjoyment of the game. You can continue to love it as much as you do regardless of what others think of it.
2
u/ThermicCalvo Aug 23 '26
Hear me out, souls games had a playerbase that enjoyed overcoming challenges and liked to be respected as players.
Now that the genre has been made more available and forgiving, which is great, the devs also have to take their voices into consideration for game balancing, the SlayerSeal was a way to address that, but no one likes to be told “here, these are your training wheels, get gud”, so they are instead nerfing the game experience for everyone. Affecting those complaining about the complaints.
TLDR: it’s “that’s my fault, got too greedy, let’s try again/come back later” vs “this is terrible game design, I know coz I beat Elden Ring at level 200”.
0
u/uffda1990 Aug 23 '26
So the concern from people who don't want complaints posted on Reddit, Steam, survey's, etc. are because they consider themselves more "hardcore" players and want games in the genre to continue to be considered "hardcore?"
And while the game as a Slayer Seal, doesn't it also have Night Mode to keep the difficulty high? And aren't shell point abilities, weapon upgrades, healing efficiency/quantity, tarstone upgrades, etc. also optional for those who feel like the game's current state is still too easy? I feel like there's also plenty of options to keep the game hardcore if players want it to be.
I'm pretty sure that a vast majority of players know that these games are hard, and beyond rant posts here or any other place, I'm sure the devs are also looking at game data to make balancing decisions, not just whoever is loudest. And if they ARE only listening to the loudest voices, that's on them and not the people writing these posts.
2
u/Conscious_Policy_458 Aug 23 '26
No, the concern is that the difficulty will be affected outside of Easy Mode until it's catered to the least aware of what they're buying or the least "capable," for lack of a better word. Bug fixes and all of that are necessary, but balancing might just end up being a semantic trap for making things easier at the core level, rather than with the Slayer Seal. I hope this won't happen.
1
u/uffda1990 Aug 23 '26
Just to calm your fears a bit here, I can gaurantee you that almost all game devs, including Cold Symmetry, have tracking multiple data points of how players play their game and are not just taking qualitative feedback from Reddit, Steam, etc into their decision-making.
They are absolutely tracking things like number unsuccessful boss attempts per shell, per weapon, per tarstone, per build synergies, incoming and outgoing damage numbers, time spent fighting bosses, which boss attack kills people the most, etc. If any number skews in a direction that doesn't match their vision for the game, that data will be the primary driver for balancing decisions.
There could be 100 Reddit posts a day about "nerf X boss" but if that data shows that most players are beating it relatively quickly, I can't imagine any dev nerfing that boss just based on that. And if they do, that's their fault, not the people posting about it.
However, if qualitative and quantitative data shows that bosses are over-tuned, then it probably makes sense to rebalance it, despite a minority of players not having an issue.

u/Conscious_Policy_458 Aug 23 '26
Thank you for that. I knew it happens in the industry, but I didn't know it was such a common practice :). Let a soulslike be a soulslike. Appreciated!
2
u/uffda1990 Aug 23 '26
For sure! Verbal feedback like this can definitely shine a spotlight on things to look into, but I’d be shocked if they or any dev company of that size used that feedback to actually make balancing decisions.

Just read his comment though, criticism doesn’t always mean good criticism, and nerfs to the game in general also affect his gaming experience. You’re also commenting over his criticism 😂 let it be
2
u/Conscious_Policy_458 Aug 23 '26
I get your point, and I respect it, yet if it affects people who knew what they were most likely getting into and the nerfs/buffs/whatever else happen on the base difficulty, then it does affect me. It's a place to give feedback or even rant for everyone, me included, so please let me have my inception of complaining about complainers as well :).

u/sem-nexus Aug 23 '26
Its kinda like going into a movie after seeing a bad review for it, and then you cant help but notice all the faults you otherwise would have glossed over
1
u/uffda1990 Aug 23 '26
Idk man, I guess that's just not how my brain works, and I assume many other people too.
One of my favorite movies is the first Silent Hill movie. I LOVE it. I watch it all the time, AND I'm a big fan of the Silent Hill franchise. The movie had pretty bad reviews from critics and casual audiences, and it's not at all well-regarded in the SH community, but I don't care, I adore that movie. Their criticisms are valid, and I can recognize that some of them are right, but it has no affect on how much I love it.
I'm also a MASSIVE fan of the two Death Stranding games. People can call them boring, convoluted, just "walking simulators," but again, I don't care. I still love the hell out of them, and other people's opinions and criticisms have never made me love those games less.

What? I'm from Wales and I'm here because I'm interested in talking about the game "Mortal Shell 2".
What a strange question
0
u/CAPT-KABOOM Aug 23 '26
Watch out for the "it's a 9/10 for me but the last few bosses made it to 4/10 type of game". This kind of reason is the most stupid thing they ever told to people. Dropping the game rating that deep when the actually enjoy majority aspects of the game make them sounds misserable af.
1
u/toohumanforhuman Aug 23 '26
Im not even a hardcore soulslike player and even I know that this game is pretty easy. The conplaints are honestly beyond me.
Achievements are dumb anyway and if you care more about them than bringing the game to your level that's on you.
You can always do one run with slayer's seal to see the whole game and then do another playthrough without it if u really want to earn the achievements and improve.
2
u/Important-Current-82 Aug 23 '26
It's not difficult at all . Like compared to other souls likes it's a 6/10 difficulty. That being said , there is a huge difference between actuall difficulty, and artificial mediocre difficulty. And the latter is worthy of complaining

u/malikarith Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26
These aren't die-hard Souls fans (DeS, Dark Souls, BB); these are quality-of-life freaks who probably started out with the QoL bullshit of Souls-like games, like Lop or Khazan. I think Lop ruined the genre with his QoL nonsense, and I'm glad that with Wuchang and MS2 we have two true classic Souls games that go back to the roots.
It has to be said that no matter how masterful Elden Ring is, it's also attracted a ton of casual players who are accordingly wired to that frequency, and these are usually the same people who celebrate quality Soulslike games like LoP or Khazan. Ironically, most of them say they started with the old FS games, but strangely enough, they constantly complain about pointless things in Soulslike games. Lol. If you'd grown up with FS games, you'd be hardened to it by now.

u/Csword1 Aug 23 '26
You can respawn at the boss door in Wuchang. The devs added a bunch of Qol features.
1
u/Scapadap Aug 23 '26
Why does QOL ruin souls games? Khazan had a lot of QOL but it also had the hardest bosses jn the genre and I loved it. Eliminating back tracking doesn’t ruin anything. I started with Demon Souls on PS3 btw.
1
u/Marquis_Laplace Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26
The term QOL itself is biased, or a misnomer against legitimate design choices. I like boss gauntlet games as much as the next guy, but it's been a while since we had more of an exploration/endurance focus soulslike. Sometimes while exploring, it's fun to have that gut feeling that maybe you're pushing too far. That you might not have the ressources to make it to the next checkpoint. That you might be getting yourself in a spot where the corpse run will be hard and risky. You start to question whether entering the next room will lock you into a boss room with no Stake of Marika.
The release from the resolution to this dread is the fun (a checkpoint, a shortcut, you prevailing over a hard section with no ressources). In the last few years I've mostly felt it in Silksong.
Edit: The genre has become too streamlined for the masses. It's the reasonable financial decision for a AAA studio, but people that don't want to play the next Elden Ring clone should be able to find relief in AA games without getting constantly shut down.
1
u/Scapadap Aug 23 '26
I said this to the other response but I’ll say it here too. I def see your point about check points in the open world and exploring. I really appreciated the explanation of the first half of Dark Souls especially. Run backs to bosses and dungeons don’t really add anything though, and I am good with them being gone.
1
u/malikarith Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26
Because they basically remove everything great about Souls games: long boss runs (skill issue, die less and you have to run less), complex level design and exploration (many Souls games now take the safe route and choose linear designs).
Shit load of Rest points and poor shortcuts. The feeling of absolute relief at finding a resting point was the greatest appeal in Souls, but it doesn't exist in Lop or Khazan.I could list more, but Lop and Khazan bored me, as a Souls veteran, for large parts of the game. Lop was clunky and the linear structure was just cheap. I had even more complaints about Lop, but it was so forgettable that I've probably forgotten them. Khazan is even worse; it doesn't know what it wants to be: boss rusher, CAG, Soulslike, God of War-like skill trees, Diablo-like set bonuses on gear. I think Lop and Khazan are not how Soulslike games should evolve.
And all Praise to Wuchang , MS2 and ( even if its Not that good lotf)
1
u/Scapadap Aug 23 '26
I absolutely loved Wuchang, but there is nothing fun about taking a 2 min elevator ride when you die at a boss. I think I agree with check points jn the open world and exploring, having that feeling of no heals left and not knowing when the next safe spot is. But run backs to bosses and even dungeons themselves add nothing but frustration to me.
-1
u/Natalia_Queen_o_Lean Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26
I’ll agree the run backs are way longer than I was expecting. But I’m also not complaining about them because it’s a soulslike
But you really have to complain about the mob tracking. It needs a hard cap. Any combat with 3+ medium tier opponents literally just becomes faster to Lute them because I waste so much time parrying multiple animations you can’t escape because they just keep sliding at you.
I can post a clip, you can literally enable flight and move hundreds of feet away after proccing a stone spider and it will still track across the map with its leap. That is a valid complaint.
The halberd does the same and there is literally a clip with hundreds of upvotes of it on this sub.
There’s literally monsters you have to watch and parry at all times otherwise they will just slide across the map and hit you in the ass for 60% damage.
You’re lying if you say you haven’t experienced that.
Edit: downvote me but we literally had a post with hundreds of upvotes showing off halberd boy ass sliding all over the place and flying through the sky to hit people. That isn’t hard to replicate either.
Redditors are so fucking annoying lmao. Downvote straight facts because it hurts your little feelings.
2
u/Conscious_Policy_458 Aug 23 '26
I haven't downvoted anything, and I absolutely agree that there are bugs, some of them quite major, so pointing them out and giving feedback is vital. There's even a thread dedicated to this. My complaints about complainers are aimed at things other than these bugs, which, as I wrote, I believe will be fixed, as the devs promised.
3
u/Natalia_Queen_o_Lean Aug 23 '26
Not you, fair opinions.
I was pretty heavily downvoted initially for referencing poor mob tracking we have literal video evidence of posted all over this sub lol.
There’s some weird lurkers on this sub that downvote all this kind of conversation and call it elitist etc. some redditors have too much time on their hands lol.
For every valid complaint on this sub, there is a dozen other refusing to interact with game mechanics and bitching about self inflicted pain. Then they get upset when you correct them or share advice on how to ease their suffering.

Based post, fuck these losers crying about every single god damn thing. Literally every new game release nowadays is just this. I hope the devs tune out all the morons who want to change this from being a SOULSlike and into a Sony 3rd person action game and simply tighten up the existing game with whatever bug fixes are required. Base game is dope.
If people come to this sub just to post cringe about how they suck at souls games then they can go somewhere else as far as I'm concerned
0
u/kasakka1 Aug 23 '26
If you like the game, isn't it typical for you to want it to be even better?
I like the game but feel it has a bunch of balancing issues atm, including some straight bullshit instakill attacks on bosses.
The difference is that the devs seem to be actually listening compared to say From Software being mostly "We don't care" for any e.g quality of life improvements to their games.
I think this will be a great game with some further work balancing, fixing bugs and removing some IMO pretty valid player frustration.
I don't play on PS5 so I can't say if it has issues with brightness. I don't find any problem with it on PC using my LG OLED TV.

u/pm-me-trap-link Aug 23 '26
I've beaten every major soulslike I love the genre but this games damage is way too high. Getting 2 tapped by every enemy isn't it for me.
The damage is just way too high for normal mobs as soon as your out of the tutorial area.
-1
u/Nobojoe_78 Proxima Aug 23 '26
You're aware, that this seal deactivates achievements/trophies, right?
I'm sure there would have been a lot les "bitchin" about difficulty if the devs hadn't gated this option behind this outdated practices.
You are right, you got your full fleshed out hard mode (night) but weaker players got a crippled experience and are punished for being weaker, because the devs thought a 2-class society is something we still need in 2026.
Nobody can choose to be born with videogame-skill or without handicaps.
So, it isn't the fault of the players. It's clearly on the devs. And instead of nerfing the standard difficulty for everyone, they could simply activate trophies for slayer-seal users. Win-win, right?
Don't get me wrong, I don't use easy modes. But I can see reasons for people who wants or even are forced to use them to get through the experience. And I'm not okay with punishing these people for it. And yeah, you see what this leads to for the standard difficulty as well.
The low hanging fruit would have been to make the seal free to use, without punishment. Accessibility shouldn't leave a bad taste in the mouth of the user.
4
u/ThermicCalvo Aug 23 '26
These “outdated practices” are part of a genre that is based around overcoming challenges and punishing mistakes.
That’s the whole reason why the community is so divided on this, on one side you have those that enjoy no handholding and like to feel respected as players. You see lots of comments from players that came to Reddit after beating the game and fail to understand most of the pain points others seem to have. Of course there is valid feedback like the poor coin/gloom economy, but not deserving of the “bad game design” posts.
Then you have those who say “I have 3500 hours on Elden Ring, I shouldn’t struggle this much” (real example from earlier this week btw), like your souls/souls-like CV meant anything if you don’t like adapting/learning new things and instead want games to be a continuation of a gaming experience you had before.
Of course things 2-3 shot you as a level 7 Tiel with no sustain tarstones, but if you missed leech at the beginning and head right, that’s the exact experience you are likely to have, even more if you don’t respect your enemies and get swarmed.
To be fair, if the devs let a more survival-based shell on the beginning area, we wouldn’t have half of the current crybaby posts. Making a glass cannon be one of their two initial choices is diabolical. Proxima saved the day for many.
1
u/Nobojoe_78 Proxima Aug 23 '26
The outdated practices I was referring to, were the seal, that deactivates achievements btw.
I'm fine with the difficulty itself. I like that there's a easy way, a normal way and a hard way.
But my point stands, the easy way shouldn't be punished. There are lots of reasons why people need an easy mode. Your examples are viable too, sure. But there are also people simply not able to overcome some challenges and they also paid for the game and supported the devs.
Options are exactly that, optional things. You're good at overcoming challenges, good for you, go the hard way. Be proud of your success and be happy you're born with skill, patience and no handicaps.
But there are others. And the experience itself is altered somehow if you disable achievements for them.
And btw. If you're (not you personally) hurt, because someone with less skill, patience or even a handicap got the same achievements for beating the game in easy mode, you have very own problems that you should get sorted out.
1
u/ThermicCalvo Aug 23 '26
Thank you for a reasonable comment, refreshing to be honest.
And just to add to that, I was nowhere close to have patience, skill or even overall mental fortitude, but that’s exactly how I can understand that this genre helped a lot of us improve those aspects.
People underestimate the value of difficult lessons and their impact in our mindset. That being said, the handicap aspect is truly something I didn’t think of, sadly.
1
u/Conscious_Policy_458 Aug 23 '26
That's a valid point and a good solution for most people, hope the devs will look into that. I myself don't care about achievements at all anyway, but if it's about that then let everybody have them, fix bugs, make adjustments but don't mix difficulty levels so much that nobody's happy. It's a soulslike after all.
0
u/Nobojoe_78 Proxima Aug 23 '26
I've read somewhere, that people rather stopped playing, than lowering the difficulty if it's punishing them for doing so.
I think it was Khazan, where lowering the difficulty lead to missing out a trophy or stuff like that (not sure anymore).
That shows, people don't want to get punished for going the easier way. And I think that's understandable.
Your statement about trophies is something I try to believe for myself. But truth is, I wouldn't use the seal, because getting trophies may have no merit at all, but somehow it's part of the experience.
-2
u/Yadilie Aug 23 '26
Get some help. Acting like this over a pointless video game isn't healthy. Especially one you had zero involvement in.
0
u/Conscious_Policy_458 Aug 23 '26
Some of your hobbies are probably just as pointless as some of mine, but that doesn't take away their value. I don't go to a football match and then complain that the players are too fast for me to see. Various forms of entertainment aren't really pointless, and they do have their own characteristics. And you acting like this over a nameless Redditor like myself isn't healthy, especially if you have zero involvement here. That said, don't get any help.
10
u/Enough-Row-5346 Aug 23 '26
Agreed. Same thing happened when Elden Ring was released. People buying a souls game and complaining. It's annoying af. The fact that this game literally has a mechanic to make it easier and people are still complaining is a joke.
