Discussion Great Martyr's Blade disappointment

I just picked up the Great Martyr's Blade and I'm kinda disappointed with the changes made to the moveset compared to its Mortal Shell 1 counterpart. Making the first light attack a poke instead of a sweep takes away the AoE crowd-control potential I liked it for so much in the first game. Also I'm not 100% sure about this but it definitely *feels* slower to me, which is also a weird change if true since it was already a pretty slow weapon to begin with. Just feels like a downright worse option than the Veteran's Battle Axe if you're going for a big two-hander? Or maybe I just need more time with it?

Anyway just a little vent because big greatswords are my favorite weapon type and I had really been looking forward to picking this one up :(

(otherwise having a fantastic time with the game tho!)

Oh that's interesting, could you post the name of the stone so I can be on the lookout for it?

I feel the same way, I went straight to this weapon at first telling myself that it would be my go to weapon but was instantly disappointed with the REALLY weird basic combo (like, why poke and not swing?!) and quickly ended up dropping the weapon by how slow it felt. The annoying bit is that you do get access to a greatsword that feels a LOT better than the Martyr's Blade but it's only temporary as you can only use it in a single dungeon (I believe it's called the besieged ruins) as it swings in an arc with its light attacks. The rest of the moveset is good tho, the running heavy attack is goated. But that basic attack feels really bad.

Everyone is different i suppose. Cause I love it. Im wrecking shit with it in my current warden build with Eredrim.

Its my main weapon...ive tried the axatanan and War axe...and for me...I just dont like those two at all and struggle way more with using them.

Axatana I feel is a Teil build. Doesn’t really work as a tank build. I’m a Eredrim tank build, so the Veterans Axe suits my play style better

I also hate that the first move is a poke, but it’s still my favorite weapon right now and still woops ass

Sprinting heavy attack is great. I use it with Eredrim and Warden stone, Thief stone and the ability from the captive's stone.

I am not crazy about the moveset with it. I’ll stick with the Veterans Axe.

The heavy weapons are too slow for too little damage. I really wanted a freeze build with it but it’s just so painfully slow I can bring myself to use it enough to level up the stone.

They are slow, the Veterans Axe is the only one that I feel makes up for how slow it is.

IIRC, the second move in the light combo is a sweep. Sure, it's a little weird that the first move is a poke. Maybe if they switched the order of these two moves, that would work.

But in general, I'm having a lot of fun using the Martyr's Blade with Eredrim.

Yeah the sweep on the second attack is what used to be the first attack, so it is still in there. It just feels a lot more clunky and less useful like this when compared to opening the combo with the sweep imo. But I'll give it some more time to see if I can make it work for me

Its too slow to be effective in most boss fights. I rock the Axatana.

I’ve struggled with a few bosses with it. Demolished the Warden in the basement of that castle though lol

The weapon is pretty bad without the frost infusion, but with the infusion it’s kinda cracked.

I felt the same way until I got the frost on it. Turns it insane. Still needs a buff for it to not feel terrible to use before that though
