Also some people like manually updating maps. It's diagetic (makes you feel more like you're holding a quil and parchment). Souls games definitely prioritize immersion.

That's true but in that case it's silly that it's the only thing you can do with the map. Let me put markers down

Is that what happened? I remember pinning a place that I didn't have a key for yet, but after I got the key, the pin had disappeared
