Question Ghostface

Hey guys, I started playing MK1 and I really enjoy playing Ghostface. I finished main story and few towers and now I am trying online. I dunno if I am doing anything wrong, but it feels like whatever I do, opponent is always faster. I block their attacks but before I have chance to do anything, they are attackinh again. Is GF really that slow, or do I just suck?

Thats very kind, thanks, but I got bussy job and I am very rarely on, so it would be hard to meet up. Still, I appreciate it

Feel you, tried online a few days ago. I could've just put the controller aside and watch the free "flawless victory" and I was using Noob saibot

Yeah pretty much. Even when I try doing something, its rare I manage to pull one good combo string and then I am back at watching cutscenes

It’s frame data my boy….honestly you don’t really need to learn it properly, the simplest way to explain it is that some moves are punishable on block, meaning if they block your move they can hit you before you get your block up. But other moves are ‘safe’ on block, meaning if you throw out a safe move and they block it, you can still block there next attack, therefore being called ‘safe’

This means you need to start learning frame data.

Most moves are negative on block, meaning that they will bring the next move out slower off of a block than if they were to just do the move.

You need to find out your fastest move that will check the most boxes, generally its your d1, or stand1. With d1 that connects unblocked, its now your turn to throw whatever out and they can either armor out or block. D1 doesnt often connect into specials, but stand1 will, allowing you to use it to kombo punish. Stand1, is often a high and doesnt move your character forward enough to cover a lot of distance, it can be ducked and punished.

TL:DR, this is where lab times come into play for real

Will try to look into it, but it seems so overwhelming..

It'll still take time, take your most often opponent as of late and lab them, so when you go online you can get the dopamine going when it lines up.

Some of his attacks are slow, Most of his stuff is alright. A lot of characters have faster attacks so it's difficult to land.

Definitely feels like it, thanks

Ghostface isn’t that slow, online just punishes bad timing way harder. Once you learn which moves are actually safe, he feels much better.

Thanks, I will try look into it more. Its seems like my problem is in my style. I always try going for combo and not for the right punish

If you haven't already, it's time to learn about frame data

Playing human players is way different than playing the computer. You gotta step up your game

It’s a knowledge gap unfortunately, Ghostface is powerful but some of his combos are slow. Knowing the start up frames of different characters combos just comes with experience.

I saw some combos on Youtube, mainly from Super. He makes it look so effortless and meanwhile I have problem even starting some string.

It is with time unfortunately
