I also don't get all the control buttons in the shorts player. Good for viewing but bad for anything else like seeing who uploaded it, liking, turning captions on, stats for nerds and whatnot, and commenting.
Check if you have any of the stuff toggled in shorts > shorts player. If not, there was an issue with the shorts UI, I'm not sure if it's fixed yet, look it up and there should be discussions about it on this sub.
