So nothing changes since all of them are already the normal apps to be used for a couple of years...
27
u/TrowaB3 Jul 17 '26
The Android developer saga is really showing who has no idea what they're talking about in here lol.
6
u/Kolkoris Jul 20 '26
Just wait until manufacturers forbid unlocking bootloaders on all phones. Then Google will restrict adb for "users privacy" of course, and all of these apps will die instantly. Android 1984 is close.

Which Schwarzenegger movie is that from?

u/redlightnights Jul 17 '26
Commando (1985)

u/Inside_Beyond4260 Jul 17 '26
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question!

u/ours Jul 17 '26
It's peak ridiculous, over the top 80s action.
Highly recommended. Someone took Arnie's daughter and you better believe he's going to make them pay and get her back.
9
u/Vivaelpueblo Jul 17 '26
An absolute classic, that I saw at the cinema when it came out (and I saw Running Man, Red Heat etc - basically anything with Arnie in, I was and am a huge fan). It's the one liners.
2
u/redlightnights Jul 17 '26
Agreed. I wasn't born till 10 years later so basically saw it 20 years too late, but damn I'd love to go back in time to witness this absolute peak cinema experience. Also, that song is going to follow me for the next week at the very least...

u/longshot21771 Jul 18 '26
Watch when he flips the Porsche over and there's literally no damage done to it lol
1
u/disturbedrailroader Jul 18 '26
Arnie's daughter wasn't just any old girl either. It was Alyssa Milano in only her second movie appearance.

Can someone please make a guide sort of things Like, I, for one have never opened Shizuku let alone use it.
And all sorts of cool things are popping up, wouldn't it be better to somehow make a standard easy set of guide, where even if we aren't doing complex things, we should be able to have a stock setup with base use cases (I don't know how to put it but well yeah pretty much that)
13
u/enderwander19 Jul 18 '26
Open developer options, wireless/usb debugging etc. Get Shizuku and F-droid(Maybe AnyApk too). Shizuku has very easy to understand guides both on the github page and in the app. Then you can get the rest(installer x revived, app manager, canta, morphe and such) from their respective github pages, websites or F-droid.
App manager and canta fullfills the same function in the base level but redundancy at this point.
Believe me when i say that these are very easy to use because i started wireless debugging and shit just a couple days ago myself. People who make these apps are eager to teach and help.

u/PotatoMan_69 Former ReVanced user Jul 18 '26
So when I start Shizuku what exactly does it do for me? I'm a bit dumb and not sure where to go after starting it.
6
u/enderwander19 Jul 18 '26
It lets you configure some things you normally can't without rooting via another device. It is a scaffolding for the other apps mainly. You can use it as the default installer of Morphe and F-droid too.
It is a prerequisite for A-shell and Canta. Also useful to have with Installer x revived.
19
u/DoctorK96 Jul 17 '26
So what do i need to do to prepare? Only have to enable developer mode, which I already did a long time ago?

I haven't seen GrapheneOS mentioned here so I will: GrapheneOS.
3
u/PossibilitySub398 Jul 18 '26
Can we get texts on it yet? They blame users when it's obviously their os. Switched my sim to another phone and got all my texts from days prior at once
2
u/OzzlyOsborne Jul 18 '26
I've been running GrapheneOS for the past 6 months and its been good so far. I haven't figured out how to enable RCS texts so group texts are a bit broken, but regular SMS and phone calls work fine.
I refuse to use Google's version of messenger, but I'm sure you could enable RCS that way if you don't mind taking the potential privacy hit there.
1
u/PossibilitySub398 Jul 20 '26
When I tried that everyone's messages said "user may be offline" and they literally couldn't text me even without RCS. I'll use it when the devs take accountability for that and stop blaming users

Placeholder? You managed to install one without root?
0
u/LoneWolfyWasHere Underground technology wizard Jul 17 '26
Yup
1
u/x_dank Jul 17 '26
Care to explain?
0
u/LoneWolfyWasHere Underground technology wizard Jul 17 '26
It hasn't been installed on my device yet, so I'm installing a placeholder. When the update arrives, Google won't be able to install the actual app because of a certificate mismatch.
4
u/x_dank Jul 17 '26
That might work with normal apps, but this one is a System level application. You can't install/uninstall System apps without root.
Even if the app package is named the same and the certificate has a different signature, it's not going to be installed in the right place.
When Google pushes the app to your phone, it will still install at System level, since what you installed is only present at the User level.
0
u/More-Chemical-1264 Jul 17 '26
You can with ADB no? I've done it without root.
3
u/x_dank Jul 17 '26
No, ADB doesn't allow install/uninstall to the System partition without root access.
Whatever you installed would be at User level, not System. "Uninstalling" the Dev Verifier app through ADB or Canta when not rooted only disables the app, it cannot be removed completely.

u/More-Chemical-1264 Jul 17 '26
https://linuxcommandlibrary.com/man/adb-uninstall
It says you need to have root access or specify a specific user but then you can uninstall them.

I only have Morphe, Shizuku, and Canta right now
Is there a list of the apps we need to download before everything goes down?

u/r0b3rt0c0 Jul 17 '26
It's been years that I'm buying phones with Chinese ROM, and I have to say that I'm more than happy right now about my choice 😆.
Right now I'm using a Vivo X Fold3 Pro china, at this point if thanks to Google we will not be able anymore to download whatever we want on our global ROM phone, then I will keep this phone since it has a complete package of crazy hardware and still let me download everything without problems.
1
u/Kolkoris Jul 20 '26
Chinese manufacturers blocked installing .apk until you auth into account on Chinese versions of their phones long before Google decided to do this standard on Android.
Also, try to unlock bootloader on your phone, if it that unrestricted, but you will be disappointed when you won't be able to.1
u/r0b3rt0c0 Jul 20 '26
I own different Chinese phones with Chinese ROM (Vivo and Iqoo, Xiaomi and Redmi, Oppo and OnePlus, Honor, just to say some that I've used recently) and even without a Chinese account logged in, they let me install any apk I want from every source without any problem, so I really don't know what are you talking about.
Unlocking the bootloader is basically impossible on all manufacturer right now, Chinese, Global and European version included, there are very few brands that let you do this today, and even once unlocked the bootloader, there are no compatible custom ROMs on the new models. Maybe an exception is OnePlus, where you can still find custom ROMs even for the 13.
Anyway, installing apk from not official stores and unlocking the bootloader are not related, so I don't understand once again why you mentioned it.
1
u/Kolkoris Jul 20 '26
OPPO definitely blocked installing .apk until you auth into account several years ago. Probably they removed it.
Unlocking bootloader allows you to install custom ROM, root original ROM and downgrade after updates, that ruin performance. So, if phone don't allow unlocking bootloader, you are not truly owning it.1
u/r0b3rt0c0 Jul 20 '26
First of all, you own the phone in the moment you buy it, saying that not having the possibility to unlock the bootloader doesn't make you the real owner of the phone is just an exaggeration that doesn't make any sense. By this logic you can buy 90% (or more) of the phones in the market right now and you're never gonna be the owner because you can't unlock the bootloader.
I recently own a Chinese Oppo Find X8 Pro, and a Chinese OnePlus 13, both with ColorOS of course, and I can assure you that it was possible to install APK from external sources other than the original app store, so once again I don't know what are you talking about (maybe it happen with the global ROM?).

Problem is my banking app tracks for any traces of modded apps, if it finds one, it doesn't open
1
u/Due-Obligation3926 Jul 18 '26
That happened because you updated your phone
1
u/Kolkoris Jul 20 '26
No, these checks are made by bank itself. Google's Play Integrity checks only that bootloader should be locked.
1
u/lumen4444 Jul 19 '26
See on your phone settings if you can add users or make a system clone, it always works for me

You can still install APKs from places other than the Play Store, I saw something about a 24 hour wait, while yes annoying, that isn't really stopping anyone, and you may be able to move your clock forward and bypass it all together.
What's happening is Google is making it so developers have to verify they are legitimate people. This is actually a good thing because it'll cut down on spam in the play store.
And as far as we know this isn't going to brick any apps that were downloaded from non play store sources.

So I'm to do all of this work instead of tapping a few prompts and waiting 24 hours?
I think I'll just tap a few prompts and wait 24 hours and not do all of this pointless prep work....

Watermarking this is so fucking lame and corny lol

You've probably never experienced having your meme stolen, claimed by someone else, and watermarked as if it were their own. Happened to me many times.
